Call of Duty 'Elite' To Be A Subscription Service
   DIR By: Toby937

So the wall street journal has released an article stating that
Call Of Duty Elite is to be a paid service offering exclusive
benefits to members. Just what they are remains to be seen.
Personally, they would have to be offering some pretty epic
stuff for me to even consider it for a split second.
Are activision taking things to far?
       Would you pay for it?
Could this spell the end for Call Of Duty?

I will buy the game if I can still play online for free but if
not I will never buy a cod game again.
Its the stupidest thing I have heard. Xbox users spend upto £40
a year just to play online and I cant see people wanting to
spend another £40 a year on a game.
In a way, I hope this fails big time for Activi$ion and they
will lose a lot of fan base because of this.
I cant believe I will have to buy BF3 just to get my fps fix.

Here is the video with the info. Basically, its paid for stats
plus you get the maps when they drop. Errrrrrrrrrm, no thanks.

       EDIT.
Looks like this will be free with SOME payment based bits in the
       mix.
From the horses mouth Robert Bowling, : COD ELITE is free, for
all players, some paid aspects TBD. Absolutely NO fee to play
#MW3 multiplayer. Detailed reveal coming tomorrow AM.

I will be getting the game, assuming multiplayer is free to
play, but unless Elite offers free map packs and it works out a
lot cheaper doing it that way, I won't be buying.
As long as any game that comes up with a paid element is
offering content that works out cheaper than buying them on
release, then I don't mind. Suppose what they're hoping for is
people to pay the subscription and then not redeem the content
       at a later date.

I am very sceptical about all of this. I dont like it. But at
the moment it is sounding very much like dlc, but you have to
wait a while for the dlc?
As long as they dont lock things like perks, or weapons I will
be fine! If they were to lock those then I might have to
       reconsider this.

I agree with Jarv hear. I understand that online will be free
and by the sounds of it the paid thing may be for dlc or
discounted dlc but lets all be clear on this. Activision, like
EA are still testing what they can get away with. Online passes
seem to have worked so we can only assume they will stay. If
Activision class this as a success next year they will push it
       further and so on.
Its a scary root that I feel will only benefit the publishers
(not the devs) and the more well of gamers.

Im eagerly awaiting the 'embargo' to lift.
They have always maintained you will never have to pay to play
online, but that leaves them open to still charge for whatever
they want. Technically they could leave players with only a few
game modes and unlocks, then leave the rest for subscribers
       only.
       Clever choice of words really.
It will apparently be free for all, with subscribers getting
extra's. to be honest, half of the statistic tracking available
to me in black ops I never look at.
I agree with GD though, publishers are going to to constantly
see how far they can push gamers. The online code business is
pretty much the norm now, and I expect to see one inside MW3.
If not an online code it will be your 'free' membership to CoD
Elite, also available for 1200 msp if you buy pre-owned.
       Sceptical? Me? Yes, very

I will wait to find out exactly what's included in this I think
       before deciding.
I know for a fact though that if it takes anything away from the
online game as we know them, for example stopping us from going
beyond a certain rank, or limiting guns, then I will just
       boycott the game.

       Agreed...
Mean, speaking strictly from what i think would be the general
viewpoint of members if the GDs network, we mostly play games
every now and again for a laugh... An escape from the hectic
lives we all lead as partners/fathers/workers etc...
Therefore speaking as a person that only plays COD once a week
(with you 'orrible lot ;)), there is no way in HELL I'm paying a
subscription...I'll make do with whatever's free, if I get the
       game at all this time...
I think the same may go for alot of our members, with the
exception of course of three or four hardcore players in the
community and of course "Billy 2games Gemmell" ;D
We have better things to spend our money on that multiple subs
       for games. :(

Just to be clear, everything you play at the moment in Cod games
will remain free. Online etc will stay. Its the elite thing you
will pay for. If you dont want it dont take it but it worries me
they will concentrate less and less on the main game and more on
       paid for services
