       GamerDads Android/iOS app
       By: vandit73 Date: May 13, 2011, 7:22 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Myself, Psycho, and Toby have come up with the idea of making a
GamerDads app for Android OS (may include a tablet variant), and
iOS (Sorry Nobski, you lucked out with your WP7 device :P lol
       ).
So we're looking for input, feedback, and suggestions from all
the members of GamerDads, i.e what features the app should
include, etc etc. The more support for this, the better it will
       be :)
Go get your thinking heads on lads! ;D

Wow, ambitious idea. I like it!
What about forum support? Reading and posting in a "mobile
       friendly" format?

Vandit lies, was his idea and he will ultimately take the blame!

I love the idea, and we could theoretically do some great
things, only limited by our imagination and coding skills. If
any of the GDs has experience of Jave programming or other
modern languages, and you might be able to assist, please let us
know. I have some experience but it is limited.
As vandit says, we need ideas as to what you would like the app
to do? What could be useful to GDs? All ideas will be
       considered!
From a technical point if view, I'll post some info later as to
how we might achieve this as i came across something useful a
       few days ago.
Get those creative juices flowing! ;D
       Cheers guys.

I think forum support should be one of the main features. What
we want to try and do is make the app as close as possible to
these forums. And possibly add a few new features :)
A lot of the coding, should say the majority of it really, will
be down to Psycho, for he is the only person who knows anything
about it, for the time being that is. I'm planning on to teach
myself the in and outs of it all, at some point. When that point
will be exactly, is anybody's guess! :D

No....I'll take the credit when it all goes right! You can take
the blame IF it all goes tits up :P

Wondering if we could get some companies to advertise on the
app, once it's finished. Boomerang Games would be a good start,
and possibly Steel Series. But that's something to think about
       at a later stage.

Great idea, albeit a scary and difficult one! :P However, the
crucual requirement for such a thing is the availability of a
public or accessible API (Application Programming Interface) at
the forum host, i.e. the app needs a back door to access the
forum data. In this case, gamerDads uses the free
createaforum.com service and that does not seem to provide such
access. The only other way that I know of achieving it is to
"screen scrape" the site and that would be painfully slow and
       horribly unreliable.
Who is the forum "boss"? Maybe they could ask createaforum.com
       whether they provide an API?

Another good idea, but never leave it til a later stage as you
may have to rework things to bring it in later! We should plan
for it from day one and think about how it is incorporated,
where the adds come from, whether they are paid or free etc. One
again, that's one for the GamerDads' board of gamers to have a
       think about. ;D

Have only very limited programming know-how, but I suspected
that already. However, it would be the prime reason for me to
       use the app I think.

Did a quick scan of the creataforum support forums and I found
no trace of any API support.
The other option (dare I even suggest it? :P) is to "roll our
own" with Drupal or something. But that would mean hosting
       issues as well.

This is great news! A forum interface would be ideal. I bought
Tapatalk for my iphone but the Gamerdads forum doesnt work on
       it.
A news section for gaming nights
A tab for FIFA11 football league showing results, fixtures,
       tables
