Rumor: Microsoft is Buying Skype
By: guest12 Date: May 10, 2011, 2:23 am

Reuters reports that Microsoft is in talks to buy internet voice
communications company Skype for around $8.5 billion.
What does that mean to you? Well, you'd presumably kiss Skype on
the PSP goodbye. You could also, in a perfect world, expect
Skype to hit the 360 via Kinect.
........and it will probably become a paid for service if MS
have their way.

From a different perspective, what if it was intergrated into
the Xbox dashboard, could we see a larger size for party chat?
Kinect video calls with multiple users? Free for Gold
subscribers?
Intersting, cheers for the info :)

I read somewhere today that xbox has a dashboard update this
month. The word is that it is bringing an kinect avatar update
which i have no clue what that is but sounds interesting. I cant
see it bringing a skype update but knowing M$, they might have
had this in motion for a while.

The thing I find weird is that Windows Live Messenger does video
and voice as good as if not better than Skype. So I would have
though branding around that would have been better on Xbox.
Obviously outwith gaming acquiring Skype is a good bit of
business, but I don't see how Skype could bring something that
Messenger couldn't already do, the only thing I think they might
be going for is they possibly have plans for you to be able to
actually dial phones direct from your Xbox using Skype.
So essentially you could be waiting in a party chat, your
waiting on someone arriving, and you can just flick over to
skype give them a call on the phone and then straight back into
party chat, or maybe even call them direct from party chat so
the whole party can chat on the phone.
Which would be a very cool service, but if that is there
thinking, I can see that being an extra subscription over and
above Gold, however if they did do that AND integrated it into
what you are already paying, then that's a pretty cool feature
to have.

Good sugestion DT. That would be a good feature (also having
more than 8 in party chat) I just hope they keep the essence of
it - free over the Internet calls. Other wise they need to call
it shyte
