[UPDATED] Sony Issues Press Release re PSN Downtime...
By: BazTardo-UK Date: April 21, 2011, 3:26 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ok, we all know that PSN is down right now and could be for
another day yet, according to Sony. The rumours are that it's
the annoying Anon group, trying to prove a point they shouldn't
even be out of jail for.
But....
How are you getting on without online??
I've tried GT5, but got no races left that I've got the time or
patience for. Mostly long races or Championships left now. The
seasonal events that I really wanted to do can't be played when
not signed in to PSN!
Then I moved on to F1 2010. As much as I like this game I now
remember why I got rid originally. It's just too easy, so I want
to go online!!
So for now, I've gone back to watching darts. After that I'm
going to give FIFA a go for the first time in months. No doubt
that will make me want to go on Be A Pro online!
So the point here is, what the buggery did I / you do before
online gaming? I didn't actually realise how little single
player I actually played.

I got plenty of games I`ve still to even start and if I needed
an online fix I can jump on live. Totaly gutted about GT5 not
happening, really looking forward to the Karts and the buses.
Also, if I had known PSN would be down I wouldn`t have bothered
posting last weeks vid today as they`re would have been no rush
and I could have done it right.
One thing I hope is when they fix it they fix it right.

Maybe that's my problem. I don't have anything left to play,
apart from LBP2 which I don't feel like even trying.

Being still fairly new to the PS3 I have plenty of things to do.
For one thing: improving my stick/button coordination in every
game.
So apart from obsessively trying to log in just in case PSN was
magically up again, I have been trying my hand at some Pro
Evolution Soccer (don't start, you FIFA fanboys, just don't
start.....). And now it is back to GT5 or otherwise it wouldn't
feel like a Thursday. Still have that pesky final advanced level
kart race to complete.

Imagine you went out this afternoon and bought your first
Playstation. You get it home follow all the instructions and
tried to get it online......

I dread to think how they are feeling. That's if they realise
there's a problem and they don't think it's something they've
done wrong,

There's nothing really to fix though that's the issue. Anonymous
are carrying out massive DDOS attacks on the PSN servers which
like the name suggests denies service to the servers, it creates
so much traffic theres no bandwidth left to allow the likes of
us to log in and play online.
What Sony will be doing is identifying and banning incoming
connections that are carrying these DDOS attacks, they might
have banned everyone from connecting because then we all get
informed PSN is down, so the number of people trying to connect
to PSN dramatically drops, which then makes it easier for Sony
to identifying the connections that are spamming them.
If Anonymous was a big enough group (which it isn't) they could
potentially shut a companies servers down indefinitely, but not
even governments can get away with stuff like that, the scale is
just too massive.
Chances are anonymous might have already stopped their current
attack meaning we could log in, but like I said Sony could have
banned all connections and are currently sifting through network
logs to ban as many identified spammers as possible before
re-opening PSN to connections.

Seems quite shocking that Sony are defenceless against this
though. Surely they should have something in place to stop it,
or isn't it possible?
