       Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PS3/360)
   DIR By: Toby937
       Date: March 3, 2011, 5:04 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I decided to do this game first, as its an absolute monster to
       cover.
As this is an older game, many people will be familiar with the
basics (game modes etc) and because of this I'm going to get
pretty much straight into the nitty gritty of it.
I hope you find at least some of this useful ;D
       Introduction
The key to success in this game is team work. You can try and
run and gun, but you will be running a long way to a quick and
       annoying death.
Even if playing alone, attempt to join a squad, you can use
squad members as mobile spawn points, help them and you will
       earn more points.
Help the rest of your team, those are guys with a blue name
above them :) They might not be in your squad but they are
       still your team.
I will get more in depth as we go on.
       Kit Selection
When it comes to choosing your kit at the start of the game, try
to think about how you want to play, do you want to get stuck in
and arm the MCOM's? If yes then the assault class is for you, do
you want to provide some form of overwatch from a distance? Then
its the Recon class, Blow stuff up? Then select Engineer, and by
       now you get my drift.
If used correctly any class can earn you lots of kills and most
       importantly, points.
       So lets run through them.
       Assault:
If you want to get stuck in, then this is the way forward,
effective at medium to short range and a valuable asset to have
on any team. Its a good class to use as a start point.
You've got a Rifle, a pistol, a grenade launcher and hand
       grenades.
However did you know if you choose a weapon such as the shotgun,
you can now carry C4 instead of the grenade launcher?
Again think about the map, you might be god like at the game but
you cant throw C4 as far as the launcher can lob a grenade.
You can also use smoke grenades in the launcher. Smoke in Bad
Company 2 is way more effective than in other games, it takes a
while to build up so dont think you are invisible straight away,
however a solid wall of smoke can keep a column of tanks hidden
       from view very effectively
All this considered, THE most important thing that you carry is
       the ammo pack.
Don't be greedy and keep it to yourself, share them. You have an
       infinate number :)
The ammo pack will be covered slightly later.
       Engineer:
A very effective class against infantry and vehicles, my
personal favourite due to its versatility and general
       awesomness.
Effective at short range mainly however a good shot can take
       guys out at further distances.
Your load out will consist of a Sub-machine gun, pistol/tracer
       dart and a rocket launcher.
The tracer dart is compatible with certain launchers. Once a
vehicle has a tracer dart stuck to it your launcher can now lock
onto it. To lock on keep the target in sight until you see the
range appear below the red square that forms around it. You can
now fire from behind cover, around a hill and the rocket will
       hit, hopefully ;)
You also carry a power drill/impact wrench looking thing. This
can fix vehicles that you or your friends are using, it can also
damage enemy vehicles just as well. Just equip it, walk up to
the vehicle press the trigger and earn the points. You're the
battlefield version of the AA. Your teams vehicles need you to
       survive. USE IT
       Medic:
Used effectively, this class can turn the tide of Battle.
You double up as a Light Machine Gunner. Dealing death and
destruction to the enemy team while also wielding the hand of
god, bringing your team mates back to life.
The weapon is most effective at medium range.
You carry an LMG, a pistol, a health pack and a defibrulator.
All LMGs have a high ammo capacity so dont be afraid to let
loose. The health pack is similar to the ammo pack, it breathes
life into your team mates, throw them at people who need them
       and reap the rewards.
The defibrulator will revive your fallen comrades, they will
show up on your mini-map or main screen as a green 'heart
monitor' line. Revive them, it gives you points as well as
adding extra lives back onto your team score. You can also give
your enemies some shock treatment if they interrupt your
       paramedic duties ;).
       Recon:
Commonly referred to as the 'Bush Wookie' due to the resemblance
to Chewbacca and peoples tendency to hide in the nearest spot of
       shrubbery.
       Top Tip: DONT!
I know, I know, everyone loves to snipe, but on Battlefield its
not as easy as you think. Plus its not called the Sniper class.
The Rifle is merely a tool to help you do your job.
You will carry a sniper rifle, a pistol, C4/motion detector and
some binoculars which let you call in a mortar strike.
However you dont have to carry a sniper rifle, there are other
weapons to pick, which will turn your Chewbacca lookalike into a
much more effective beast. Enabling them to get into the thick
of the fighting with medium range weapons and enough C4 to bring
       the house down, literally.
The motion detector is a great bit of kit, it highlights any
enemy in its range. Dont be selfish, its not your personal alarm
system. Chuck it in the direction of likely enemy approaches,
they will get illuminated like a Christmas tree allowing your or
your team to see them, thus points will flow toward you as they
       meet their virtual maker.
But lets be honest, you want to shoot people in the face from
       across the map.
So you must take into account bullet drop, the further away you
are, the higher above your target you must aim. Its tricky but
you get used to it over time.
Dont forget your mortars. They take time to come in and they
take time to recharge. Use them wisely.
You might be sitting on a hill half a mile from battle, but you
must still help your team! Using Mortars and eliminating
priority targets (eg an enemy disarming an MCOM) are your role,
which will in turn help your team to win.
I know that that is a VERY brief overview of the classes, but
more will be learned about them as we go through this guide.
In the next part I will do an overview of the vehicles.
       Cheers,
       Toby

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Vehicles Of Bad Company 2
Without a doubt one of the funnest elements of the game.
Although unfortunately they are still not used to their full
       potential!
Alrighty, so if you want to drive/pilot a vehicle do yourself a
favour, Choose the Engineer class. That way you don't have to
rely on others to repair you in times of trouble, also if your
vehicle gets destroyed but you survive, you will be carrying an
act of vengeance in the guise of a rocket launcher to surprise
       your enemy with.
       Never use a vehicle alone!
Things like the Bradley can carry four troops into battle, why
be selfish and take it on your own! A full vehicle is an
effective one. An empty one wont last long.
When you choose your kit, ensure to look at the vehicle
       specialisations on the right .
First up is the Vehicle Motion Sensor Specialization. When
equipped, this kit mark the position of nearby enemies on the
mini map. To stop any sneaky gits creeping up on you
Next, the Hardened Armor. This armor upgrade package makes your
vehicles less vulnerable to anti-armor munitions. EG, other
       tanks, RPG's etc
Third comes the Extra Damage Specialization. Basically gives
your main weapon a bigger punch.
The Quick Reload Package is next on the list. Does what it says
but is actually quite handy in tank battles and in Helicopter vs
       AA gun battles.
Smoke Countermeasures Package. This upgrade generates a
360-degree smokescreen to obscure your vehicle at the touch of a
button. Very handy for making a quick escape or jumping out to
       perform a quick repair.
For those who have ever dreamed of sniping with shells (Why
would you? Ex Artillery maybe?) the High-Power Optics Package is
available. This upgrade drastically increases the accurate range
of your weapons, and allows you to zoom in with primary weapons.
Finally you can use the Alternate Weapons Package. This upgrade
varies depending on what you're driving, from a tow missile
launcher in a Bradley to a coaxial machine gun in an Abrams
tank, try it and find out ;D
So lets list em and see how we can improve our game
       UAV
       Piloting:
I love this little thing, ok it looks like an RC helicoter but
that just adds to the appeal. Located most maps, it looks like a
CCTV monitor on a stand, walk up to it press the action.
If using this I go for the Alternate Weapons Package. This add a
machine gun to the front of your drone to rain death from above
if you have used your primary guided missile and someone has
spotted you. However the advanced optics is also useful so you
       can stay further away.
The primary missile will require you to keep the crosshair over
the target until impact. Not that easy, so rather than go for
infantry, target vehicles, gun emplacements and buildings. Your
missile will be available again after a short while.
Keep high and keep your distance, it has little to no armour so
dont make your self obvious to the enemy.
If you see the enemy 'spot' them instantly, dont blow your cover
to swoop down and kill them, you will get spot assist points for
       your trouble.
Use it as god intended, to observe, locate and assist where you
can, relay the information to your team through talking and
spotting. It will give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside observing
enemy attack fail miserably as your team destroy them, all
       because of your communication!
Dip below tree lines and ridges if you get fired upon to lose
them, fly toward your base and find a friendly engineer, he can
       fix you!
       Taking it out
It has pathetically low armour, so a few bursts from most
weapons will destroy it. As soon as you see it 'spot' it. Yes
thats right tell your friends, if you've seen it, chances are,
hes already spotted you. If you really cant find it but know its
up there, try and make your way to the monitor where the pilot
will be. An easy dog tag for your collection.
       Quad Bike
       Driving
Fast and nimble, it can carry two troops and is armed with a car
horn and whatever the bloke on the back is using. Can be found
       on most maps
This vehicle is really just something to get from A to B fast.
However if you are the sneaky sort, some C4 strapped to it will
turn it into an effective mobile bomb that can destroy a tank.
Be careful of it flipping over and crashing, it has no armour so
       will blow up quite easily.
       Take it Out
Simples, the passengers are exposed, shoot them. Aim slightly
infront of them and let them drive into your bullets.
Shooting one with the main gun of a tank is highly recommended
       ;D
       Humvee
       Driving
This can carry 4 troops quickly into battle. driver, 2
passengers and one on the .50 calibre on the roof. It also has a
       horn.
Nimble and effective at quickly supplying troops to the fight
but sadly lacking in armour. The guy sticking his head out of
the roof can provide good cover fire against infantry, but avoid
tanks and engineers. Look out for anti tank mines on the road,
       you will set them off!
       Taking It Out
You can shoot the driver through the windscreen, or use any
explosive against it, it wont last long, watch out for its
gunner. anti tank mines are very effective against it.
       Bradley
       Driver
This APC can carry four people.
A driver/main gunner, heavy machine gunner and two passengers
that control machine guns on each side.
Medium armour and speed, this is a very effective weapons
       platform and transport.
As a driver if you use the Alternate weapons package you will
gain a secondary TOW missile that packs quite a punch against
larger tanks. If your operating it with a friend, get your
number two to use the armour upgrade or faster reload. Yes the
upgrades will work in conjunction with each other!
It is mainly effective against infantry, light vehicles and
       helicopters, avoid the larger tanks.
       Taking it Out
Heavy Tanks are the worst nightmare, however rocket launchers
will do nicely. 2-4 hits should suffice. 2 Anti tank mines
should destroy them as well as 2-4 blocks of C4. Grenades are
       generally ineffective.
       Abrams Main Tank
Good long to short range, heavily armoured beast. Crew of 2
One drive/gunner and a heavy machine gunner.
Always try to have your number two be a friend/team mate for
communication. His job will be to keep the flies from getting to
close and strapping C4 to you, taking out helicopters and
       watching for mines.
As a main gunner it really depends on the map/gamemode smaller
built up maps or areas may require faster reload, open maps may
require smoke or advanced optics. It is personal choice if im
honest, what works for you and your team mate(s).
Keep the front of your tank to the enemy and watch your ass, do
not let enemy tanks catch you at the sides or rear, if this
happens immediately turn and face them.
       Taking it Out
       RPG's 3-5 hits, C4 3-5 charges, 2-3 anti tank mines.
NOTE: All tanks have weaker armour at their rear and directly
above. If your firing rockets, hit em up their poo pipe.
The UAV's primary missile is a worthy apponent against them. But
a tank battle is always a win win situation, but again go for
       the sides or rear.
       HELICOPTERS
Now im not going to lie, I fricking love flying about in them,
playing the flying taxi or death machine.
       HOWEVER!!
Flying these babies is no easy procedure, I highly recommend
before jumping in the pilots seat you find some pals and get a
private match going so you can practice. Im always up for
helping people do that so just let me know.
There is nothing more soul destroying than jumping into a
helicopter ready to go, then all of a sudden your going backward
rolling upside down and being shown the words EPIC FAIL on the
       spawn screen.
If you cant fly dont. The helicopter is a valuable asset to the
       team, dont waste them.
       Blackhawk
This can crew 5 players, 1 pilot 2 gunners and 2 passengers.
Used correctly this can drop 5 players directly over the
objective and return with another five before the enemy has
       found the initial drop.
As a pilot you have no weapons, so either use the armour upgrade
or smoke (ill explain that shortly)
Its a little bit slow and not heavily armoured, so fly low and
fast or as high as you can get. Probably the easiest helicopter
to learn to fly in as it handles well.
As a door gunner you will be equipped with a minigun, Constantly
scan and hit the back/select button to try and identify targets,
as soon as you do, let them have it, the gun is powerful enough
to destroy small shelters/buildings but is pretty useless
       against armoured vehicles.
The blackhawk is a transport, use it as such. Fly in, drop off,
return for another pickup, repair rinse and repeat.
Effective gunners will earn the pilot points, so be courteous to
       them,
angle your machine so the gunners can get kills and provide
       effective cover.
       Taking it Out
The tracer dart/launcher method is the most effective, 1-2 hits
will destroy it, AA emplacements and fixed machine guns will
also take it down but will give the passengers time to bail out.
       Apache
This Gunship has a crew of 2.
The pilot flies the helicopter and has a salvos of rockets at
his disposal, the number 2 control a heavy machine gun.
The pilots rockets are effective against all vehicles the heavy
machine gun is effective against infantry and soft skinned
       vehicles and shelters.
It is very fast and difficult to control for novice pilots,
however with a bit of practice it you will become a force to be
       reckoned with.
it is very advisable to be able to communicate with your co
       pilot.
Vehicle upgrades work the best in tandem on this vehicle.
       Some examples:
       Pilot -Alternate Weapon Package
       No.2 -Alternate Weapon Package
This will enable your gunner to plant a tracer on vehicle. The
pilot is then able to lock on and fire a Hellfire at the
       vehicle, causing massive damage.
       Pilot -Armour
       No.2 -Optics
Enables the pilot to hover whilst under fire whilst the gunner
goes to town on infantry targets.
Practice and experience will help you get used to putting the
upgrades together, my personal favourite is example 1.
       Taking it Out
the same method as with the blackhawk, however bear in mind the
Apache is much tougher and quicker, planting a dart will prove
       difficult against a good pilot.
       .............................................
Now taking that all into consideration, I shall give all you
aspiring pilots/drivers a tip. The tracer dart is your worst
       nightmare.
Pressing the D-pad up will take your view to outside the
vehicle, do this every few seconds to see if you have been
       tagged.
If you have the VEHICLE SMOKE perk equipped you can now ruin an
engineers day, as the smoke will remove the tracer dart. If your
No.2 has quick reload applied your smoke/flares will reload much
       faster.
Note that if the rocket has already been fired, your too late,
it will hit no matter what you do, so watch out for those pink
       flashes.
This works on all armoured vehicles and helicopter.
If your flying a blackhawk Smoke is a definate win.
Thats it for now, guys, the next installment will be Soviet
       Vehicles and General Gameplay.
I hope you've enjoyed reading this review so far and if anybody
has any feedback, please feel free to comment.
       Cheers,
       Toby

Sorry for the the delay in getting the rest of this up guys!
       Soviet Vehicles
Many of these vehicles are simply the opposite of their american
counterparts, but ill list which ones they are and mention any
       differences.
       GAZ-3937 Vodnik
This transport vehicle looks a little bit like a rubbish camper
       van.
It is really the soviet equivalent of the humvee in regard to
features such as armour, armament etc.
       M939 Truck
This is basically a lorry. Its only available on one of the
       multiplayer maps (cold war rush)
Its only use is as a troop transport (or mobile bomb ;) )
Armour is slightly heavier than the GAZ.
       BMD-3
Infantry fighting vehicle almost exactly the same as the
       Bradley.
       BAKCHA
An anti aircrafte vehicle based on the BMD-3
It look like a tank with a mahoosive machine gun on the top.
Armour is slightly weaker than the BMD-3.
       Crew of 2 (driver/AA gunner)
As well as acting as a driver you can fire an automatic mortar.
This is quite effective at clearing obstacles and blowing holes
       in buildings.
As an AA gunner be sure to 'lead' your targets as the rounds it
fires seem to be quite slow. The gun is also effective against
       infantry.
       Mi-24 Hind
The soviets version of the blackhawk.
However this features only one gunner. Situated in the nose, it
is similar to the gunners seat of an apache.
Again as a pilot you have no weaponry, just your eagle eyes and
gazelle like reflexes to rely on. Passengers can fire out of the
vehicle so with a full compliment of troops it can be very
effective. However its main role is still a transport and is
       armoured as such.
You WILL NOT survive if you go toe to toe with vehicles.
Its manouverability and speed are similar again to the blackhawk
       so a good 'learner' vehicle.
       Mi-28 Havoc
Soviet Version of the Apache. Same beast, different name.
Nuff said on that one really.
Its a commodity, use it wisely. Experienced pilot required.

       GENERAL GAMEPLAY
First of all we should look at how levelling up occurs in Bad
       Company 2
You get points for pretty much anything in Bad Company 2.
Believe me, in order to level up, you need them
       In-Game Actions
Want to be at the top of the leader board? Fed up of being in
the relegation zone on the score board each game?
Well fear not, help is at hand.
Obviously kills are a big part of any first person shooter, but
in this they are not the be all and end all of your score.
You will get 50 points for shooting someone outright. Great
right? Not so when you need thousands of points to level up each
       time.
TEAM work however will got you more points than simply gunning
       down your foes.
As the saying goes, 'There is no I in team, but there is a U in
       C*NT'
Team actions are an integral part of the game.
As a medic or assault class, throw your little packed lunches at
all the friendlies you find, they in turn will eat up all the
sandwiches and grant you points in return, on average between 20
       and 60 points.
As a medic be sure to revive your team mates, 50 points
       athankyou.
As an Engineer fix any friendly vehicle, stick close to them,
you will keep them rolling round and get points in return, how
damaged the vehicle is determines the points. But every little
       helps.
Also be sure to have the tracer dart equipped. Just planting a
dart on a vehicle will nab you 30 points.
Even as the recon class you can assist your team.
Throw your motion sensors toward the enemy, if a friendly kills
someone in its range, have 20 points.
Even if you want to snipe from a distance, SPOT everyone. Again
if the enemy is killed, 20 points is heading your way.
This action goes for any class, constantly mash the 'back'
button. It really does assist the team. Being selfish does not
ensure the win. This is a sure fire way of getting points when
       in the UAV.
Destroying enemy vehicles will grant you 100 points, occupied or
not. If its occupied, bonus, you get the kill points as well as
       a bonus for double/multi kills.
There are challenges available to you to try and complete within
the games which will grant you more points. These vary from
running four people over in one round to getting 100 kills with
       a weapon.
These are in the guise of combat pins, patches and weapon stars.
Be sure to look in the 'My Stats' option to see what you can do
or what you are close to.
But I cant emphasise enough the 'team' aspect when playing. It
is really the only way to do well. Be a team player and your
team will repay you, in points and in gestures.
On that note ensure you always join a squad, you can do this by
pressing start whilst in game selecting the squads option and
       the 'find me a squad'.
Not only will this stop you having to constantly start at the
Spawn, but you can join them on the move. Also, doing team
actions for your squad will grant you more points! :o

I tend to do that for first couple of games until I remember
that's not the way to play. Not been on this game since
Christmas though when I downloaded Vietnam pack.
