PHD Student Needs YOUR Help...

Hello all,
I thought this may be of particular interest to our community...
Richard Gough from the Department of Information Science at
Loughborough University is currently researching how people
customize their online Avatars and what it says about us.
He is looking to speak to a wide range of demographics and has
approached me to ask you lovely lot as mature gamers if you
could spare a little time to help out?
I'll defiantly be taking part, as I fascinated with human
Psychology etc from my med studies and I’m curious to see what
the results of this study say about the gaming community as a
whole...
Would anyone else like to take part?
It sounds like a very informal thing-Richard has emailed me to
say if any of you are in the Nottingham/Derby//Loughborough area
then he would like to drive down and see you in person for half
an hour if at all possible, however if this is not possible, or
you live elsewhere in the country (as i advised many of you do),
then a chat over Skype will be fine.
I'll let Richard explain more below. He has signed up to the
forums, so if you are interested, please comment below so that
he can get an idea of numbers, and I’ll contact you to see which
contact details you want me to pass on (easiest is to give the
email address you signed up to the site with initially as i have
all those on file already).
Cheers! ;D

Hi moobit!
I'm a PhD student at Loughborough University looking at how
gamers customise their characters in computer and video games. I
first noticed GamerDads whilst following all the media related
to this years Eurogamer Expo, and I was wondering if you or any
other members may be interested in taking part in my research.
So far most of my participants are undergraduate students so I'd
be very grateful if I could talk to some more professionals.
I'm conducting interviews to find out how gamers customise
characters in a wide range of games (not just RPGs but anything
with an a character appearance editor or reward/experience
points system). The interviews are quite informal and usually
last between one and two hours. I conduct them at any time to
suit the participant, preferably in a quiet environment.
Interviews are quite open ended but I do have a few set
questions to get the ball rolling about gaming habits (e.g. time
spent gaming, favourite platforms, favourite types of games),
general questions about what the participant does when faced
with character customisation options and more specific questions
about decisions (character appearance, attributes, equipment,
narrative/ethical) made in games participants have played in the
past (e.g. Fallout 3, Oblivion, Fable, FIFA, Modern Warfare 2,
Tiger Woods PGA Tour, Mass Effect, Xbox Avatars, Nintendo Wii
Miis, etc.).
Hope this is of interest to you and your friends.
Best regards,
Richard Gough
