In response to ongoing connection issues and vocal customer
criticism, a spokesperson for Activision has told an angry
PlayStation 3 owner that the publisher may shut down Call of
Duty: Black Ops’ PlayStation Network servers.

I contacted Dan Amrich, Activision's @OneOfSwords via Twitter
and asked for a clarification. This was his response
@ECHO6423 No plans to take servers down. I think a private
conversation got taken the wrong way, then went public. Don't be
worried. :)

Whether this is spin or the truth is another question. When
asked about IW's abandoning MW2 his response was more of a
non-response, however Robert Bowling @FourZeroTwo was in a
conversation with a few gamers on my feed over the Xmas period
and his answers would seem to support IW's surrendering the
fight against PS3 hackers.
Keep your eyes on the blogs and gaming news sites for an
official statement which they're surely going to have to make to
combat these rumours

There's over half a million people online every time I go on, so
I'm pretty sure they would face a battle for refunds under the
sale of goods act if they were to close servers now. Technically
I'm sure we could all say the game was sold not fit for purpose,
as although they can close servers when they feel, it's pretty
well known that this doesn't happen until number of players is
so few it's not worth keeping them running.
As for blaming PS3 jailbreakers, thats the worst excuse ever.
Xbox was broken years ago and even the original MW was hacked
not long after release, so they can't get funny about that.

Yeah Activision haven't actually said anything. This story comes
from one guy who claims that some guy on the phone on
Activisions tech support line said this.
Activision won't pull the servers, there'd be uproar of the like
that has not been seen before. The PS3 version of the game and
the support for it, is complete and utter pish though.
Activision have their money from MS, so they couldnt give a
toss. You can add it to the long list of why Activision is a
horrible horrible publisher.
Every other dev/publisher combo out there can get their
multiplats working fine, but not the biggest publisher in the
world? Either they are totally incompetent or just lazy fucks.
