Sony - Fantastic customer support

Have to say well done Sony!!
My blu-ray drive has started failing to read discs
intermittently, just phoned them and they have asked me to do a
format of my hard drive as certain software corruptions can
cause this issue. If it's still not working after that, I can
phone them back tomorrow and they will have DPD at my door on
Thursday, with a refurb and will exchange that for my broken one
on the spot.
Now THAT'S customer service.
(Of course the point should also be made that it shouldnt have
****ing broken in the first place, but hey ho if they are going
to replace it without me having to send off my PS3 which still
works for all intents and purposes I really cant complain)

It's always good to hear that some companies customer services
aren't totally useless.
Nice and speedy service as well.
How long did you have left on your warranty?

I highly doubt we'd get that kind of prompt exchange service
here in the States. That's gotta be based on locality.
But, yes, well done Sony.
If I were you, I wouldn't even go through the formatting, I'd
just say it didn't fix it.
Actually, I have to know, what will happen to your hard drive?
Haven't you upgrade the capacity by now? Will, the be sending
you a hard-drive-less console or what's the deal?

I`m on my 3rd replaced console now all had the same problem
after a while (would`nt read discs) and my son is on his 2nd,
again same problem.
Sony sorted the problem out each time and replaced them without
any hassle.........excellent service :)

They pretty much know consumers know there rights with this sort
of thing. You can easily argue that todays consoles are not fit
for purpose at point of sale. They should last a lot longer than
they do. My spectrum still works after 25 years.
Incidently ive only had 2 RROD and microsoft but both times they
have been superb, just saying ;D

Just under 2 months. But all refurbs come with a 3 month
warranty, so this will actually extend my Sony warranty. (I have
2 years extended with Comet as well)

My original PS3 died. I'm on a 250GB slim now. So they will just
send me a refurb 250GB slim.
If you have put a bigger hard drive in, and you ever need to
send it away, I would stick the old one back in before sending
it.

Think your ZX Spectrum is still working after all this time
because there's pretty much nothing in it that can break

But seriously it's all relative. Back then technology was what
it was. It is what it is now. This is the only generation of
consoles that have had these problems. Maybe they went too far
too quick. Maybe a convo for another thread

Don't wanna speak too soon, but it looks like the Full Format
has fixed this.

How do you do a full format? My disc drive stopped registering
discs a while back and though I'm happy to stick to DL games
(cos I ain't paying £130) it may be worth a shot
