Hey guys just wanted to share this link from the New York Times
on how Ebooks are helping authors and making more money than
       ever before.

Wow I had no idea ebooks were doing so well financially. You'd
think the ease to pirate them would put a dent in their profit,
since that's what all the anti-pirate protesters say.
Obviously they aren't doing that badly!

This is incredible! Do you think it's because of the
convenience? People can read more because they always have
multiple books on hand, since ereaders weigh practically
nothing. That means they need more books - which they can get
any time, anywhere. I think the costs to the customers are a
       tiny bit lower too.

Also you have to remember that not everyone has room for actual
books I have so many books that just sit around taking up space,
while on a tablet or ereader you can store hundreds of books and
would take up as much space as a water bottle. i think that
alone is enough to motivate someone into getting into ebooks and
       tossing the old hardcover away.

I have been migrating to e-reading this past year. I live an
hour south of Winnipeg and every day I enjoy reading the
Winnipeg Free Press subscription for which I pay half the cost
of a print copy. It is certainly better for the environment but
perhaps not for worker employment. As a person with strong
near-sightedness, I love my iPad's scalable font and adjustable
back light. I have a beef with e-book prices, though. For
example, Cormac McCarthy's 20-year-old Blood Meridian costs
$12.27 in paperback and $12.99 in e-book form at Amazon. This is
difficult to accept. Fortunately, I discovered my local library
has it for free in paper and e-book format!
       Happy reading, Canada!

There's so much we can do now. Without the restraint of
publishing costs, writers can try entirely new things and post
it in popular spots online like Reddit to see whether it's what
people want. They could even poll readers to see what they're
interested in! Plus writers can find collaborators who have
common interests online using social media sites.
We already see new types of books showing up in the app stores -
I've seen interactive children's stories. Remember those old
books with the buttons along the side that made noises or music?
We can do so much better than that with a tablet! Kids books
are going to be so cool!

Do you think it will only be kids books? I think we'll see
interactive reading experiences. Right now my Kobo lets me
share what I'm reading on Facebook right from the mobile device.
It also can share little progress markers like number of hours
       I've been reading.
What if books with social interaction took off the way social
games did? You could unlock features by adding more friends.
I'm starting to sound like that article from McSweeney's
       Internet Tendency
  HTML http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/the-future-of-books.
       It
might be a little ridiculous but I think it holds some truth.

There are some really interesting applications for non-fiction.
       In this Forbes article
  HTML http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeremygreenfield/2013/07/11/looking-into-the-past-of-books-to-see-their-future/,<br
/>Jeremy Greenfield interviews Corey Pressman (founder of a
software design company, and an ex anthropology professor) about
the future of novels in the digital age. He talks about how
manuscripts and books were shared among many people who would
annotate the document. He says these used to be forms of social
media, because you could read a conversation about the book in
       the margins.
Modern ebooks have the potential to massively expand this
advantage. We aren't limited by the size of the margins - notes
could be hyperlinked all throughout research material. There
could even be links to other studies which reference or expand
on material discussed in a book or article. The potential for
us to use social interaction as a tool to spread information is
       huge.

here is a great article posted by JULIE BOSMAN of the New York
Times.. It talks about how eboos are actually helping in the
sale of book titles and even though hard cover books may be
selling less the sale of ebooks is on the rise.
