62 in a 30 speeding

Hi guys.
I got caught by a mobile speed van doing 62mph in a 30mph zone
in October 2025. It was a dual carriageway coming out of a city
with no pedestrians and light traffic, it is totally my fault
and I should have known but I wasn’t really concentrating, I
understand not an excuse and I hold my hands up to it. I’ve
received the NIP and have responded that I’m the driver and have
been told to expect a SPJN at some point.
I have a few questions, if anyone would be kind enough to help:
1) Is it worth me paying a solicitor to represent me at court?
I’m hoping to try and stay away from a ban and take the maximum
points and fine as I need my licence for work.
2) Is it a requirement for the offence photograph to have some
kind of laser device identifier on it? I’ve been given a
calibration certificate but how do I know that’s for the device
actually used on the day? I’m sure they’ve followed procedure
but I couldn’t find any information online about this
requirement.
3) Am I likely to be able to mitigate and stay away from a ban
at this speed? If not what sort of ban should be expected from
people’s experiences?
Thanks a lot!

At more than twice the limit you are well into ban territory.
The guidance suggests either six points or a ban of up to 56
days. It also says this:
"Where an offender is driving grossly in excess of the speed
limit the court should consider a disqualification in excess of
56 days."
I would be surprised if you can persuade the court to impose
points instead of a ban.
