CCJ for parking fine
By: ravi4281 Date: January 15, 2026, 10:42 am

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice regarding a private parking fine
that has unfortunately escalated.
I parked in a car park run by Euro Parking Services while I went
in for a coffee. The car park required customers to enter their
vehicle registration into a terminal inside the shop, which I
forgot to do. I later received several letters but, due to
personal circumstances at the time, I didn’t deal with them.
The matter has now been passed to Gladstones Solicitors, and a
County Court Judgment (CCJ) has been issued against me for £490.
I understand this was a default judgment as I didn’t respond to
the court claim.
As far as i can see the only way to challenge this now is to
apply for a set aside (judgment to be cancelled), but the court
fee is around £330 plus, which is extremely high and obviously a
way of making people not want to appeal
I dont want the baliffs knocking on my door if I refuse to pay.
What are options??
If anyone has experience with similar cases or can offer
guidance on my options, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Pay the £490 within 30 days and ensure that the record is
removed.
If you don’t pay within 30 days it will be recorded and visible
on your credit record, even though “satisfied”.
If you pay quickly it will be removed from the record.
It’s your fault, but of course you can go down the route to set
aside the judgement, but for £160 is it worth it?
If you didn’t respond to the court claim, this is what happens,
and this is why the parking companies start the court process in
the hope that you do not respond and they get a judgment in
default.

For clarity, did you receive the court claim prior to the
default judgement and simply not respond?
