Reading Council - Confusing parking sign PCN
By: cassinx01 Date: January 13, 2026, 9:58 am

Hi,
I got a Parking Fine from Reading council for parking in the
middle of this pole which has a very confusing sign.
Apprently the bays on the left of the sign are free for 2 hours
within the time 8am - 8pm. And to the right it is 'permit holder
only'. I was told this by a local resident. But there is no
arrows pointing or guiding someone who does not live in Reading.
Is this something I can appeal.

Thanks

If the pole for the signs is exactly at the boundary between the
two separate bays, there is no need for directional arrows.
Please post a GSV link to the exact location.

The car was parked a few spots behind the sign.

Photo shows no bay divider on the carriageway bay markings,
although the GSV view is quite old, so the marking may be there
now.
the marking is a double-dashed line perpendicular the kerb -
=====
So the signage is not adequate in accordance with Regulation 18
of The Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England
and Wales) Regulations 1996

You can always submit representations whatever. Essentially the
point is that whilst the sign shows two different restrictions,
there is no bay boundary line on the carriageway. The signage is
therefore not adequate and in accordance with Regulation 18 of
The Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and
Wales) Regulations 1996

As I said, this is what the latest GSV view shows, (no boundary
lines), but the lines may have been painted since.
