Drink Drive 69mg
By: mart2312 Date: January 8, 2026, 9:22 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I am in court on Tuesday.
I am a first time offender. Going through a lot of other
personal problems atm which has definitely contributed to this.
A series of events from nursing my wife through terminal
illness, becoming a single parent to two young girls when we
lost her January 2022, Losing my business in March 2024 and the
financial fallout of all of that and seasonal depression and
financial pressures including kids birthdays just before
christmas, expensive car trouble just before christmas etc.
I hit a pothole and was trying to change a tyre when the police
stopped and breathalised me. I was absolutely distraught that I
would have more expense and really not in a good place when the
police arrived. I was almost relieved to get into the police van
and be taken away from that situation I was having that much of
crisis.
I am an area manager that has to drive across the whole region.
HR dept have said my position will be under regular review and
have not ruled out a dismissal if they feel I can't fulfil the
role. I also have a second income as a musician having to travel
mainly regional but sometimes further.
If those things were bad enough we live beyond walking distance
to their school and other activities and I don't have anyone
else we can rely on.

Do you have a question?
Nothing you have said mitigates the offence or provides a
defence. Once convicted in court you will be getting a ban of 12
months or more (plus fine and costs), you ay be able to reduce
the length of the ban by agreeing to attend a course.

Have you been charged with driving with excess alcohol, or being
in charge?

Does anyone know if I will have to pay the fine on the day?
I am in a terrible financial position I am actually actually
filing for bankruptcy tomorrow.
I've heard you can pay court fines from your Universal Credit is
this true?
Thanks

Then unfortunately you will face a minimum of 12 months
disqualification. It will probably be more than that as the
guideline sentence for the level is 17 to 22 months.
The court should allow you to pay any fine/ costs etc. in
instalments.

You can apply for a "means hearing" or a "payment plan".
Don't panic, a significant number of people who are processed by
the courts are in the same position as you.
