Retirement pension miscalculation by employer.
By: Sander333 Date: December 18, 2025, 1:06 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
My wife is a member of the LGPS and decided to retire in
September this year. Her pension is administered by the Local
Government and at the beginning of 2025 made enquiries as to her
commuted lump sum and monthly pension.
She was advised as is quite normal to use the LGPS modeller and
during the year accessed it at intervals to see what she was
entitled to. She also had taken out AVC which could not be taken
into consideration as this was with the Prudential.
She was satisfied with the figures stated on the modeller and
decided to retire.
She received a telephone call in September after giving her
retirement notice stating that there was an error in the figures
and that a member of staff had entered the wrong salary for the
year 2023/4 cutting a long story short she was informed that the
error was £11000 over estimated and that this would be deducted
from final commutation. We have complained and been offered
without prejudice £500 for distress which was paid into accounts
just wondering if we can still escalate to pensions tribunal

Having read the judgement I linked to the cases looks similar
and probably caused by the same issue.
Dont expect the ombudsman to grant what the modeller said but
you can probably get the compo upped a bit.
