Not much help now, but did you try asking them why you weren't
offered an SAC? Wouldn't have been guaranteed to make any
difference, but would have stood a far better chance than
telling us that you don't understand why.

Good question though re SACS. Has the OP sought legal advice
other than on here? Would there be a duty solicitor available on
the day? Just trying to be positive.

No. The Duty Solicitor is available only to defendants appearing
for the first time to face a charge for an offence which can
carry custodial sentence.
