93mph in 70mph duel carriageway
By: Nwaleslad Date: October 10, 2025, 3:20 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi
First time poster.
I was stopped on the roadside on 29/09 around 21:00 by an
officer and issued with a traffic offence notice for 93mph in a
70mph zone.
Nothing has been received in the post yet, with the 14 days
being next week (but I am aware the notice can be the nip).
I have three questions:
1 - What is the most likely outcome for this? It’s clear that
I’m over the limit, of course. Over 96 is court, but nothing for
91-95. It could go to court or could be a 100 fine. I can’t
dispute the speeding; I was over the limit.
2 - This is what is frustrating: the police pulled us over. The
one in front of me was right on my bumper. He is the one who
would have used the speeding gun on me and caught me at 93. Is
this any mitigation as it was not used on my car (I assume not)?
The other car then overtook me, and this led to the police
following us to stop. The officer did say that he paced over
100mph (no way I was over 100!! The other driver was 115, he
said). However, we have both been done for 93mph.
3 - I have just exchanged contracts on first home and will
complete it next week, so due to moving in two weeks, what is
the best action to take with my licence and also with the
police? Do you notify them if I have not had any tickets?
Thanks in advance.

How do you know the other driver was also reported for 93?
No NIP is required where you were warned at the time that you
might be prosecuted.

We both got pulled by police and told at same time and he got
told same speed and he was also being warned about undertaking.
We then both got issued tickets in the police car separately.
I understand the prosecution but what is this likely to be
He told me i was being reported and given the verbal nip,

That excess should see a 3 points £100 fixed penalty.
If you don't have access to the address you are currently at
then you need a postal redirection. Failing to accept the CoFP
will be costly.

Sounds like the officer was doing you both a favour by reporting
you for a speed just within the threshold for an FPN.

Once you have access to the new place, set up redirection on
your address as well going through changing your address on
everything.

Be sure to read and conform to everything on the CoFP. By which
I mean have you submitted your driving licence details as
required? This is a step that people overlook and end up with a
SJP and higher fines.
