Mobile Speed Enforcement 26 in a 20, work vehicle, no SA offered
By: ReflectoR Date: October 6, 2025, 1:24 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
So I receieved a speeding fine through mobile enforcement, and
it was in my work van. I submitted my details to the fleet
management company, and then it was issued to me, where I
admitted to the fault, can't remember which section I filled in.
It said on the letter a SA may be offered.
Fast forward 15th September, I get a letter giving me only 2
options, £100 + 3 points, or court.
No Speed Awareness course was offered. I know I've left it very
late, and not much time is left to respond.
But I have an otherwise clean license which I need for my
employment (I believe the company does allow for upto 6points,
but I am not sure on that).
Is there no way to "appeal" for a speed awareness course? I
understand the police are under no obligation to offer one, but
I was hoping to find someone I could write to maybe? And
politely ask, and explain I strive to keep a clean license as I
rely on it for my work.
EDIT:
Option B was: If you wish to decline or are unable to accept
this offer, or want to contest this offence please request a
magistrates' court hearing by writing to the address at the top
of this leter.
I don't know if it helps, but the letter arrived on 20th
September, despite being dated 15th Sept.
The date and time of the original event was 29/07/2025.
Kind regards.

There's no formal 'appeal' process as SAC's are outside the
legal framework.
You don't realistically have time to write - you would need to
call and ask.

Usual reason with company vehicles is after going through a
chain of recipients, there is a the risk of a time out. But with
4 months left that didn't seem to be a danger.
I take it you haven't done a course in the previous 3 years?

Was the offence in England or Wales?

It was in England.
I had a course about 3 or 4 years ago 22 in a 20, or something.
I've not found any reliable numbers to call. The one I found was
only open between 9am and 12pm. And when I finally managed to
call, they had some message about system issues so they cannot
take calls?

It was probably "something". Enforcement in a 20mph limit
normally begins at 24mph.

It was something yes. It probably was around the 24 mark. I
cannot remember. I can try and find some paper work or
something, if it's required?

You've given a vague 3 or 4 years as a timeline.
If it happens to be less than 3 years between offence dates that
would give you your answer.
