       SJP- need help please
By: drssl Date: October 1, 2025, 6:38 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have got a formal diagnosis of ASD/ ADHD
My symptoms got worse due to menopause hence had a private
assessment and got diagnosed of neurodivergent
       Over last few years :
I got 3 penalty points for speeding in 2022
       3 and another 3 in 2023
       Another 3 in 2025 - Total 12 points
       Now recieved SJP notice
I accept that I should be more attentive but my condition is
       making it difficult
Last speeding was 46 mph on 40 mph
Currently working on managing symptoms - taking
therapy for focus improvement/ counselling/medical treatment
       for neurodivergence
I have contacted Disability car driving assessment for driving
fitness( self referral) and awaiting appointment
       Shall I plea guilty ?
Or Shall I plea non guilty and attend court with evidence ?
Will I be heard and understood ??
Do I need to inform DVLA of ADHD/ ASD as speeding is due to my
condition not reckless driving ( been driving since 17 years)

If your question is “does a diagnosis of ASD/ADHD provide a
defence to a speeding allegation?” then the answer is no.

Have you done a speed awareness course in the last 3 years? 46
in a 40 would be eligible for one, assuming this isn't in
       Scotland.

If what the OP has told us is meaningful and accurate, they
would have already totted up, and avoided a totting up ban with
exceptional hardship that can't be argued again for another 3
years to avoid a totting up ban.
Depending on when in 2022 the offence was, they are currently
sitting on either 9 or 12 relevant points, so will be liable to
tot up if they get 3 points for the latest offence.

Do I need to inform DVLA of ADHD/ ASD
[/quote]The short answer is probably yes. (Good advice would be
to report and they decide given the facts)
       The longer answer is here.
