       HMRC Tax Rebates
       By: Mayhem007 Date: September 19, 2025, 9:05 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I found out today that the HMRC no longer reimburse you a cheque
       for paying tax.
They now refer you to a company Fairsfair for claiming your tax
rebate. Apparently thins started June 2025.
My friend went through this company, as directed by HMRC,
providing his claim of £60.10. The Fairs fair reimbursed him for
       £31.71.
Surely this is wrong on so many levels.

I don't think this is true.
You can claim refunds via the Government website:
  HTML https://www.gov.uk/tax-overpayments-and-underpayments/if-youre-due-a-refund
Fairsfair are a company who will act as an intermediary and
charge for that service. There is no need to use them at all.
       No mention of them here:
  HTML https://www.gov.uk/tax-overpayments-and-underpayments/if-youre-due-a-refund
I am skeptical that HRMC directed anyone to use an intermediary
company - is there any evidence of this?

all sound decidedly dodgy to me. my last tax refunds were cheque
and a credit into my tax account.

The only thing wrong is the story your friend gave you; they
were NOT directed to Fairsfair by HMRC - I suspect they googled
tax rebate and landed on a site that may have looked like the
official HMRC site but actually wasn't...
As Fairsfair themselves state in their T&Cs
  HTML https://fairsfair.co.uk/tob/:
'You understand and agree that you
could pursue a claim for a tax refund from HMRC independently
for free, without the use of our Services'

       I thought so.
I will pass all your advice onto my friend.
       Many thanks
