Temporary 50mph speed restriction on A1(M) between J44 and J43 -
speed recorded at 63mph
By: GreenZinc55 Date: September 4, 2025, 7:12 am

Hi All,
I've received a NIP, followed by the FPN after I confirmed I
would have been the driver at the time of the alleged offence,
which is: "Exceed a temporary 50mph speed restriction on a
motorway in contravention of a Local Traffic Order - ACD at
07:49 on 23/08/2025 at A1(M) Southbound, Between MP 60/2 North
of J44 on main carriageway to MP 54/6 J43 on Main Carriageway,
Leeds. The speed of the vehicle on this occasion was recorded at
63 mph".
I've been offered a NSA course, as this is the first time I've
received such a notice, but I'd really appreciate people's
opinion on whether there's anything else to do than go on the
course.
The police have shared some photos of the alleged offence, but
it's impossible to read most of it as the document resolution is
very low (I'll attach what I have below in case it's helpful).
Here are all the files I have:

The below appears to be a duplicate, even though the file name
is different and it was a seperate download.

Would there be any grounds to appeal, as far as anyone can see?
I have no experience with speeding tickets so would love to hear
from people who have.
Thank you very much in advance.

Unless you have a vaild defence to the speeding charge why would
you not want to do a course? The other two options will put
points on your licence and if you let it got to court it will be
a lot more expensive.
I did a course a couple of years ago and it was no problem.
Some people think they will be talked down to or criticised but
mine was nothing like that. A couple of hours online and that
was it. £100 lighter in the pocket but no points

There is nothing to appeal at this stage. You can either accept
one of the offers, or not. In the latter case, you will in due
course have the opportunity to defend the charge in court.
I can see no defence from what you have posted. As a (very) long
shot, it may be worth checking the TRO (probably on the National
Highways site) to make sure that it is in order.

Thank you both. I tried to find the TRO, including on National
Highways, but couldn't find it. I've driven on the road again
and the signs seem to be appropriate. Strange there isn't a
findable TRO, but without one I'm not going to risk anything.
I've decided to do the SAC. Hartlepool Council offer it online
for £79, seems to be the cheapest available.
Thanks again.
