Yes, it's their normal approach.
Nothing to worry about.
They know that a certain percentage of people fold at the
thought of going to court.
There's little chance of them winning this and they know it but
it won't stop them using the court process as a 'tool' in the
game.
Hopefully Calamity Jake will get involved and receive yet
another bloody nose.

Transcript from a recent (similar) VCS case at Bristol Airport.
Well worth the read IMHO.

Yes - spot on.
Looks like the VCS key witness smelt blood in the water and
didn't show up.
In any case, he'd only have provided hearsay evidence as he
probably wasn't present at Bristol Airport when the incident
took place.

Jake Burgess: (name spelled incorrectly in the transcript)
always says he might turn up but doesn’t

the final arbiter, is much more favourable to you, as they are
independent. VCS and their sister company Excel, have been
severely spanked in court many times. They rely on legal advice
from an incompetent legal advisor, Jake Burgess, whose
reputation amongst those of us who have had the opportunity to
go up against him over parking claims, is even less than the
infamous lettuce meme that represented Liz Truss.

Jake in action in the above case where he managed to turn the
pursuit of £11,390 worth of parking charges into a staggering
£10,240 loss at court - quite a remarkable piece of legal work.
