Hi again,
I have received an ackowledgment of defence letter from HM
Courts.
They are also stating that a copy of my defence will be sent to
the claimant and the claimant may or not contact me to resolve
the dispute or the claimant could inform the court that they
wish to proceed.
Is there anything that I can or should do at this stage?..
Are there any chances that the claimant will drop this or they
usually proceed.
Here's the actual text of the letter:
"I acknowledge receipt of your defence. A copy is being served
on the claimant (or the claimant's solicitor).
The claimant may contact you direct to attempt to resolve any
dispute. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, the
claimant will inform the court that he wishes to proceed. The
court will then inform you of what will happen.
Where he wishes to proceed, the claimant must contact the court
within 28 days after receiving a copy of your defence. After
that period has elapsed, the claim will be stayed. The only
action the claimant can then take will be to apply to a judge
for an order lifting the stay"

You can just do a search of the forum for any other DCB Legal
issued claim to see what happens when.
You will receive a letter from DCB Legal saying they have
received a copy of your defence and their client intends to
proceed. They will also include a copy of their N180 Directions
Questionnaire (DQ) which you can just file. You will eventually
receive your won DQ and, again, there are plenty of recent
examples on the forum for you to see how you need to respond.
This will eventually be either struck out or discontinued. I
have no doubt about that. It will just take time until that
happens. Once you have sent your DQ and gone through the
ridiculous waste of time that iOS the mediation phone call, the
case will be transferred to your local county court and a judge
will issue orders with deadlines and a hearing date.
DCB Legal will discontinue just before they are required to pay
the £27 trial fee. You are many months away from that point
though.

questionnaire.
What a headache indeed! Bureaucracy at its best!

Do not miss the requirement to submit your own N180DQ:

Hi All,
2 and a half months after I had the mediation call I have
received a General Form of Judgement or Order from Kingston
County Court.
Do I need to go to court now or what are the next steps?

Sorry Guys,
Can anybody help me with this? I tried to find similar cases for
answers but did not manage to find any.
I have now received an email from DCBL as well saying this:
"Good Morning,
We write in relation to the above matter.
Our client is prepared to make an offer to potentially conclude
this matter. We ask that you call us on 0203 838 7038 to discuss
this further.
We look forward to hearing from you."
I don't know what am I supposed to do at this stage...

In the meantime, you should not communicate with either DCBL or
DCB Legal.
You need to be prepared to submit a Witness Statement by 13
April. As it says.
Search the forum and do your research. You’ve got more than a
month. In due course the date by which DCB Legal need to pay the
fee should become clearer.

A big Thank you to everybody who posted their advice here!
on 25/03/2026 I have received an e-mail from dcblegal that the
claim has been discontinued!
They have sent the e-mail to
enquiries.kingston.countycourt[member=6517]justice[/member].gov.uk
(copying me) and asked them to confirm that the hearing booked
for 17/06/2026 has been vacated!
