Blackwall Tunnel Charge Fine - FYI

Hi all
I gather there haven't been many fines posted here for the
Blackwall Tunnel/Silvertown payment so I'm posting this one on
the off chance it helps someone in the future.
We received the fine this week YJ74765923 for not paying the
fine on the north going south journey, although we also went
south to north on the same morning of Saturday 21 June 2025.
I was driving for my Mum who got the call that her sister had
had a stroke the night before and we were all called to her
bedside. She died at 5pm that day. My Mum also has a disabled
sticker so shouldn't pay anyway (I know that now I've done some
research!) so I am going to appeal and see if they are lenient.
I've already registered her Blue Badge and car so I hope that
will help as well.
I'm hoping if I appeal one of the fines, that before the other
one arrives in the post, they will be able to deal with both. I
will let everyone on here know what they say.
BTW, this fine was issued on 28 June but didn't arrive until 5
July so I'm guessing Royal Mail's delay has taken a week out of
the possible appeal time!

ive just posted for a family friend had exactly the same issue
same dates.

I received a call on the morning of Saturday 21 June to say that
my sister XXXXX was seriously ill at the XXXX Hospital in XXXX.
My daughter drove me, using sat nav because we didn't know the
way, to be at her side but XXXXX died at 5pm on the evening of
21 June.
I have never driven through the Blackwell Tunnel before and did
not realise there was a charge to pay. I don't recall seeing any
signs. I have since discovered that because I have a Blue Badge
(attached) I should not have to pay anyway. My daughter has set
up the Blue Badge discount for me so that this does not happen
again.
Please could you make an exception at this time as it's very
stressful with her passing already and being with her when she
died meant the world to me and my family. I don't normally
travel outside my area due to having [disability] so this was an
extraordinary journey.
I think I may have received a fine for the journey going from
south to north in the morning around 10am but that hasn't
arrived in the post yet.
My family are trying to come to terms with the death and would
appreciate you being kind in this matter.

Hello all
The letter arrived today - the penalty has been cancelled! There
was no explanation or a reason given, just that it had been
investigated and it was decided to be cancelled.
Hopefully others will find the same!
