Entering a Pedestrian Zone – Brick Lane (Tower Hamlets) -now

I received a PCN from Tower Hamlets Council for entering a
pedestrian zone on Brick Lane. I was focused on looking at the
names of the side roads. I did see the signage, but I saw the
one-way sign, so I assumed it was okay to proceed — I didn’t
realise there was also a pedestrian zone sign.
It was a silly mistake on my part — is there anything I can with
this?

Video shows you driving slowly past the two signs. The
directional arrow is mounted at the bottom of the restriction
signs, so its difficult to think of an appeal argument, sorry to
have to say it. Are you new to the area, or a stranger to London
?

Yeah, I believe it was only my second time in the area. I live
about an hour and a half away from Brick Lane.
So, are there pretty much no grounds for appeal in this case?
Would it be better to just pay the PCN?

I think there have been a few cases allowed for the confusing
signage. I'll see if I can dig one out later. There are a couple
of such restrictions on Brick Lane.

I was picking up a disabled passenger at the time. Would it be
reasonable to base my appeal on this, using their valid
disability badge as supporting evidence? A friend mentioned that
their similar appeal was rejected, so I'm doubtful this will be
considered.

It is something you should emphasise in your representations to
the council. They may give way, but most London councils have
hearts of stone, as they love the money so much.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find the cases that
stamfordman mentioned regarding the confusing signage on Brick
Lane?
I’m thinking of writing an appeal that first highlights the
confusing signage, then explains that I was picking up a
disabled passenger — I'll attach their disability badge as
supporting evidence. Does that sound like a good idea?

As expected, I’ve received a Notice of Rejection from Tower
Hamlets Council — but they’ve misspelled my name on the letter.
Does that kind of error matter at all?

I usually save a copy of my appeals on my laptop, but in this
case, I don’t think I did. The main premise of the appeal was
that I was picking up a disabled person who was unable to get to
me, and that I stopped briefly to assist without putting anyone
in danger — there were hardly any pedestrians in the area at the
time, and I left immediately afterward.
As expected, the appeal was rejected. However, I noticed that in
the rejection letter, they misspelled my name. Could this error
be enough to get the PCN dismissed, or is it not worth pursuing
further?
