Ealing 50JR - Performing a prohibited right turn
DIR By: Grace Period

I received a PCN the other day for performing a prohibited turn
(no right turn) off New Broadway into Longfield Avenue in the
London Borough of Ealing.

There is a no right turn sign (which I now notice) but there's a
bunch of other random signs and street furniture in that area I
didn't take it in. I travel down that road often and there's a
dozen other left and right turns turns travelling west bound
within 1 mile which are allowed so it didn't cross my mind that
a right turn up Longfield Avenue would not be allowed.
I'm aware that I probably won't win but London Boroughs pull
this crap all the time and charge huge amounts for relatively
minor infringements. So if they're going to extort money out of
me I'd rather make them work for it.
Does anyone have any advice for my appeal? Link to PCN

Well, first off, you need to be a bit more prompt in coming on
here as all the guys post on here pro bonoand have other jobs.
What you could do is ring TfL and ask for the video. This comes
as a DVD in the post and they will freeze the enforcement
process for 2 weeks. This will give a chance for us to
investigate. Make sure TfL commit to maintaining the discount
whilst you wait for the DVD.
I think we've seen this one before, but I don't think it was
successful. However, our administrator, cp8759 can tell you more
about a technical appeal based on their PCN content which is
successful, I believe.

Thank you, appreciate that people here are giving up their own
time to offer advice.
I should have been more clear, it's Ealing Council rather than
TFL. I have a copy of the video (link not DVD) and it just shows
my car making the prohibited turn. It also shows a cyclist
making the same turn in front which I am going to blame for me
making that turn, even if it is allowed.

OP, for accuracy the discount lasts until 12 June.
In your direction of travel, GSV(10 months) shows three advanced
signs. The first is for information and comprises words alone
with a colour palette indistinguishable from adjacent banners,
the second contains a diagram and a distance(20yds) while the
third is regulatory. The second and third are situated on the
nearside of the road(with respect to your direction of travel)
and are clear of trees and other paraphernalia which might
obscure a motorist's view. The first one could be obscured by a
tree, but not the second and certainly not the regulatory sign.
What interests me is the wording of the first sign: 'No right
turn Uxbridge Road into Longfield Ave.' The PCN states 'New
Broadway/Longfield Ave.'. Is the turn in New Broadway or
Uxbridge?

Thanks HC
I've known the two used names interchangeably for the same road.
Looking at Google Maps it appears like going Westbound New
Broadway becomes Uxbridge Road slightly after the turn to
Longfield Avenue. Is there anything in that?
