Confusing signage
DIR By: Gazza
Date: January 27, 2025, 6:31 pm

Arrived at 5.45
Paid for 15 mins ringgo (which added up to an overnight stay
)cos this road is free after 6pm
Despite confusing yellow line which doesn’t actually describe if
is waiting parking or loading restriction, the sign also showed
the availability of parking
The bay stretched to the right as per the arrow
Is it worth challenging?
The sign is confusing

It is free after 6PM, but only until 7:30PM. Then it becomes no
parking overnight until 8AM.
Sign looks fairly standard. There’s a set of rules councils are
expected to follow.

Thanks
Not sure if it’s me but it doesn’t seem to say if it’s a ban on
loading or waiting or what
Should we be punished for a simple mistake when we’ve already
paid for parking?

Signs like this are in a hierarchy, with the main restriction
always at the top, (the yellow sign). The top sign should be
well familiar to you because it is used all over the place and
always contains the 'No Waiting" (aka no parking), symbol, with
the times when it is banned. In you case from 7.30 pm to 8.00
am.
Then below this, the times when parking is free, and then below
that, a sign for when payment must be made.
What made you think parking was free all night when there is a
sign that says it isn't ?

It was a genuine error by an older person who still paid for the
parking time

Unfortunately, councils dine out on genuine errors, and are
naturally very unforgiving when it is they who keep the penalty
money !
