Son just got back from the '2023 We Out Here Festival',
apparently is was advertised as a totally cashless event :D :D
:D it was also apparent that the organisers hadn't checked the
signal strength :D :D :D ergo buying stuff was a nightmare
as none of the 'tills' would work :D :D :D ....oh the sweet
joy of being born in the 60's lol.

Most of Manchester’s boozers are now cashless, it works in the
landlords favour if you don’t see actual cash leaving your
pocket you don’t get that sense what a waste of money so just
tap tap away with your card.

I have seen similar scenarios at various country fairs and the
like with vendors relying on (a non-existent) cellular service.
This is why some of the organisers of these events offer a wifi
service at £!!!!
As an example "The Game Fair" at Ragley Hall this year was a
3-day event and the wi-fi cost £124 for the event. You would
have to sell a fair few ice-creams to cover that cost, but I
expect that it pales into insignificance compared to the cost of
the pitch itself

It also prevents the staff pocketing the change.

But not management pocketing tips that may be added to the card
payment.
Which was something my daughter had a regular argument about
when she was working in a bistro bar and bills of a couple of
hundred with 10-15-20 quid tips were common.

I was actually born quite a few miles north of Madchester(sp)
;), but seriously, are their town (city) centre pubs really
cashless?
Sounds like we need to move the "Watford Gap" dividing line to
the M62 or even further!!!
