I witnessed a hit and run. How does it work?

I witnessed a car hitting another parked car, and car-at-fault
just drove way. I took the runaway drivers' plate number, and
asked my wife to take a video to prove it was nearby of the
scene of the accident.
I also stopped, met the driver of the damaged car, passed on my
contact details and the video. The damage seemed to be only to
the mirror. My additional advice to him was to contact the local
council as they had a CCTV camera, and hopefully they can
provide some footage.
Is there anything else to be done from my side? I also assume
that the incident would be categorised as a minor one.

The victim should report it to the police and name you as a
witness, what happens beyond that would be a matter for him /
his insurance company / the police.
