TfL, 52g - Failing to comply with prohibition on certain types
of vehicle, Rotherhithe Tunnel Approach

Hi all,

I've been given 2 PCNs for 'Failing to comply with prohibition
on certain types of vehicle; goods vehicle exceeding max gross
weight indciated', which is contravention code 52g.
<br>

I saw the height sign but didn't see a weight one or even knew
the weight of the hired vehicle. So I drove through Rotherhite
tunnel in both directions without realising my error, all in the
aid of helping a friend move house, who can't drive. So not only
did I lose a days worth of work for being kind, I have two hefty
charges to my name, that I can ill afford.

The vehicle in question was a hired Ford Transit van.
<br>
<br>
Both PCN's were 'passed' onto me from the hire firm, who
informed me that the PCNs would be on their way.
<br>
<br>
My question is are the PCNs valid if they've spelt my name
wrong? They had the correct correspondence address.
<br>

eg if the name on the driver's licence is

they have addressed the PCN to:
--- Quote ---
> Mr Johnlexander D Smith
--- End Quote ---

It's very unfortunate you paid because this could have easily
been beaten, but then for whatever reason you've not given us
the full story. It's very annoying when people pay within a few
days of getting the PCN as it's just a waste of time for all
involved.

Hi cp8759,
well don't I feel the fool now :( . Sorry for wasting any
bodies time. After waiting 5 days without reply, I [now
knowingly incorrectly] presumed that there was no option for me.
Also, when I went to the TfL website, the fine they wanted me to
pay was showing up at £90 (so £180 collectively), which if I
wasn't getting any advice from the ftla website, I thought was a
painful half way house to accept. Even then, my 14 day period to
contest the charge or pay less ended 11th and nobody had replied
to the message.
Anyway, thank you regardless for your attention to the matter.
Should I be in a similar scenario I shall definitely wait until
the 14th day to pay!

[member=205]tobesb[/member] as a general rule if you challenge a
PCN within 14 days, the rejection will reoffer the discount
anyway (because they want to give you an incentive not to appeal
further), so if you get no timely reply, a one line
representation saying the contravention did not occur can buy
you several weeks without losing the discount option. You know
for next time.
