This could be interesting if we ever get to see the evidence.
Sharron Davies has allegedly been caught speeding in a VSL area
on the M4 and is defending the allegation on the basis that the
signage was “so poor it was easy to miss.”

       Interesting because she’s a (supposed) celebrity or…?

Interesting because if we get to see the evidence and she is
found not guilty, it may give others some information to use if
they find themselves in a similar position.

Based on what we so far it sounds unlikely that she would be
       found not guilty.

most importantly no workmen. I don't know if this is about the
time that roadworks start at night on motorways and if this was
a factor in signage or confusion.

As we all know, VSL are not for roadworks, but for 'traffic
flow' or hazard ahead, so there wouldn't be no workmen. Large
overhead signs are usually pretty clear, and will backed up in
the pictures provided by the cameras.
