Bexley PCN – No Right Turn – Station Rd / Main Rd, Sidcup –
       Appeal Rejected
   DIR By: mengene
       Date: August 8, 2026, 4:42 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hello,
I received a PCN from Bexley Council for an alleged “No Right
Turn” contravention at Station Road / Main Road, Sidcup.
The alleged contravention took place on 03/07/2026 at 19:23.
At the time, I was following my satellite navigation system,
which directed me to make this turn. I did not notice the “No
Right Turn” sign when making the turn. My concern was that the
signage and road layout at this location were not sufficiently
clear or prominent to make the restriction obvious to a driver
       approaching the junction.
I therefore submitted representations to Bexley Council. In my
representations, I explained that my navigation system had
directed me to make the turn and raised concerns about whether
the restriction/signage was sufficiently clear and visible to
       approaching motorists.
Bexley Council rejected my representations and issued a Notice
of Rejection of Representations dated 05/08/2026.
In their response, the Council states that following satellite
navigation instructions is not an acceptable reason for
contravening traffic regulations. They also state that they have
checked the signs at Station Road/Main Road and confirmed that
they are correct and compliant with the relevant regulations.
The Council has now given me the option of paying the discounted
amount of £80 within 14 days, or appealing to the Environment
and Traffic Adjudicators. If I appeal to the adjudicator and am
unsuccessful, I understand that the full penalty of £160 will
       become payable.
Before deciding whether to pay, I would really appreciate the
       forum members’ advice.
Do you think there are any valid legal or technical grounds for
taking this case to the adjudicator? In particular, could there
be any issues with the positioning/visibility or adequacy of the
signage, the relevant Traffic Management Order, the wording of
the PCN or Notice of Rejection, any procedural impropriety, or
any other grounds on which this PCN could potentially be
       challenged?
I will attach the following documents/images to this post:
       The original PCN
       My representations/appeal to Bexley Council
The Council’s Notice of Rejection (all pages)
I can also provide the Council’s CCTV/video evidence if
       required.
Any advice on whether this case is worth taking to the
       adjudicator would be greatly appreciated.
       Thank you.

Note that the NRT sign is on the traffic signal heads just below
the green signal, so no chance if you say "I missed this"
All other right turns are allowed. Your PCN is what I call a
"satnav-assisted PCN". Useing satnav in cities, especially
London means one must be very alert to things like this. CCTV is
in place all over London and makes the councils and TfL hundreds
of millions of pounds every year.

That diversion sign in the GSV is interesting, if you claimed
that you were simply following the signs would that still be a
       contravention?

So what should I do? Do I have to pay this fine? Can’t I appeal?

Of course you can appeal to London Tribunals, but the full PCN
penalty will be in play, and so far, I've seen nothing that
would win there. The signs for a No Right Turn are there, and
saying you didnt see them when they are on the traffic light
signal heads, which you needed to see when the light was green,
is very unlikely to win your case.
So far nobody has suggested anything as an appeal argument.
Adjudicator can only judge on law, not mitigation.
