What is his insurer. I had a look at policies we have with Aviva
and Direct Line and nothing says we can't drive our car out of a
police pound. I think you need to have at least 30 days to run
on the policy though.
I hadn't heard of impound insurance but it looks like it's
mainly for those without insurance.

I'm not sure who the insurance company is but apparently, and
although it seems far fetched he says these are the facts, his
insurance doesn't cover him for getting the car out, he has had
to buy impound insurance covering 30 days for £400 (although
apparently you get a 50% refund if you cancel in the first week)
and not only that the original insurance has cancelled the
insurance because the car has been impounded.
He was saying you have to send the various documents over to the
police by email/on-line and the police check them by speaking to
the insurance company and only if everything is in order do they
give you an appointment to go and collect the forms to release
the vehicle. So that's how the insurance company has found out
about the impound.
I'm guessing whatever insurance firm it is it would have been at
the cheaper end of the scale, probably the cheapest. Like I said
it seems crazy but he says its the truth.

Any ideas about my query on once the car has been stopped and
the uninsured driver has got out, how they are able to still
impound the car if its insured elsewhere? Unless there is a
specific law saying they can then in my mind they are impounding
an insured vehicle for no insurance.

Basically, you have your own uninformed idea regarding the legal
requirements for seizing a vehicle, and bumped an already
tenuous and vicarious thread because nobody could be bothered to
google it for you. If you bump the thread again, I will close
it. If you continue to drip-feed, I will close it. If England
lose and I am in a bad mood, I may also close it.
