Hello!
in July i visited the birmingham city centre car park after i
was duwe to stay in the city for a full day and it would of been
£37 quid for the whole day!
so i paid for an hour (even tho i was only there for 20 mins)
and left.
i then get a notice claiming that i hadn't paid for my time in
this car park. the usually £60 or £100 fine. but i had kept the
ticket! i send off a picture of the ticket saying i paid for the
time i was there. unfortunalty whilst i was there the machine
was acting up and wouldnt let me put in my number plate so i
just put "g" which i didnt mention in my reply to them. they are
now saying that due to me putting in "g" i have to pay a £20
"admin" fee. obviously this is mad as i paid the £5 charge for
my 20 mins parking. anyway to avoid paying this?
This is an excert from the email they sent:
Whilst we note that you have provided details of payment against
another vehicle registration, this does not
automatically render this Parking Charge null and void. The
payment was made for "G" when it should have been
made for (my reg). On this occasion we have reduced the fee to
our £20 administration fee as a gesture of
goodwill. Any further PC's will not be reduced.
We are therefore unable to cancel the Parking Charge as it was
issued correctly. We have now extended the
discounted payment period by a further 14 days to allow you time
to pay the discounted settlement amount.
Please now make payment of £20 to reach us by 18/07/2026 or £100
to reach us by 01/08/2026. We must advise
you that once the discounted settlement rate passes it will not
be offered again.

It’s up to you whether you pay £20 or put up with the hassle of
debt collectors’ letters and a possible county court claim you
will have to defend. You will probably end up paying £0 if so,
but you will need to take time and effort to follow the process
properly.

I would think this will be classed by the parking company as a
major keying error. You can appeal to POPLA to see if they agree
with you if not then you will need to wait to see if there are
any other outcomes.
