Fine for riding a bike without tax, from 2 years ago.

First of all, I do not know if i committed this offence, two
years ago next month.
So I received a letter from a magistrates asking me to pay a
fine of £322.25 for no reason whatsoever, when i rang them to
ask about it they told me it was for driving a vehicle on the
road when it was on SORN.
The person also told me they had been sending letters to the
wrong address, 4 doors down over the road & that i could appeal.
Also, if the bike didn't have tax, it didn't have insurance or
MOT. So will they be next things they'll come at me for?
I can't remember last month, never mind the 15th January 2022.
How do I go about this? I do not know if I am guilty of it or
not.

I'd suggest trying to work this out - my guess is notthat you
'rode it on the road' per se, but that it was neither insured or
SORNed
1. Did you own the motrobike for that period?
2. Is/Was the V5 address correct?
3. Was the bike used on the road - not having an MoT or
insurance isn't an offence if the bike was not
4. January 2022 is less than 2 years ago so bank statements will
tell about payments to DVLA, insurers etc
That's a start!

Not having tax doesn't mean it doesn't have MOT/insurance, they
are not dependant on it being taxed. If you mean if it was
being ridden, the DVLA are responsible for tax prosecutions, the
Police for MOT/Ins so that won't be an issue
As above, it's more likely the bike was registered to the wrong
address and as such they sent all the communications to that
correct address (that wasn't yours).
You presumably remember SORNing it?
Was it left on the road at all, as that is 'using' and an
offence as it (SORN....) must be OFF ROAD.

I still own the bike.
Both my drivers license and the bikes V5 logbook are at the
correct address, always have been, They sent the SJP notices to
#35 instead of #34. #35 is a derelict house.
I wouldn't use a bike on the road without insurance, the bike
had many mechanical issues when purchased and spent 3 months in
my garage being worked on.
I insure and MOT bikes when theyre off for MOT,
I do not remember sorning it. But I could have?
Bloody 2 years, I'm going to apply for it to be reheard in court
based on me never receiving any of their SJP. What's the chances
of them upping the fine because they couldn't find me?

They might try but if you have CHECKED the V5C and the address
is correct and they've sent the correspondence elsewhere, you're
fairly safe. If you SORNed the bike, you would have had a
confirmation.
FFS don't comment openly on test rides on a public road without
insurance...........

I don't see how the V5 being correct necessarily helps even if
any correspondence was misdelivered.
The fine is presumably for keeping the untaxed vehicle (plus the
back tax).
The fact of misdelivery of reminders and out of court settlement
doesn't change that.
It could be that the DVLA might be persuaded to reoffer an out
of court settlement after a statutory declaration which would be
cheaper.

If you didn’t SORN it then you didn’t need to ride it (and
possibly are mistaken about what the fine is for) as you were
guilty of failing either tax or insure it.

Statutory Declaration has been accepted, judge on the phone said
nowhere does it mention being seen on the road its likely
because I didn't sorn it.
Back to the DVLA to start proceedings again.
