       Question over legality of YBJ design

       Hello All,
       Firstly, I must say I haven't been caught by this box...but I
       live locally and a LOT of people have. The local opposition
       councillors are trying to get the YBJ scrapped (never going to
       happen!), but I believe the design & placement are incorrect so
       we may be able to get it fixed & I thought I should ask some of
       you experts for your opinion. The box is AI camera enforced by
       Royal Borough of Greenwich.
       The YBJ in question is at the junction of Green Lane and william
       Barefoot Drive, SE9. It is 90m south from a major juntion on the
       A20 Sidcup Road and the main purpose is to aid those turning
       right into WBD and therefore not back-up onto the A20 jct. I
       therefore believe the box to be justified, but incorrect.
       WBD at the jct with Green Lane has a large "central reservation"
       and the 2-lane entry to & 2-lane exit from WBD are fully
       separated. The issue is that the YBJ completely covers both
       sections of the jct and people heading north on GL are regularly
       being caught in the box when queueing for the A20 lights and
       someone pulls out in front of them from WBD. Because the box is
       so long, they legitimately enter the box with a clear exit, but
       get blocked by the vehicle pulling out from WBD.
       Image 1 shows the full extent of the box. I believe the bottom
       half to be correct, but sections 1 & 2 are the problem. There is
       an argument that section 1 could be retained to make it easier
       for those turning right out of WBD (yes, I know the right turn
       rule doesn't apply here), but I believe the entire top half
       should only ever be marked up as "Keep Clear" in the hope that
       some people leave space to allow for some movement out of WBD.

       So...1. Is the YBJ in its current form legal and enforceable?
       2. What would be your suggested change?
