50mph in a 30mph .

Hi folks i have just received 2 speeding tickets for the same
location A446 Lichfield Road ,Coleshill North which has a limit
of 30mph, one ticket was for 44mph and one for 50mph. One
offence was dated 30/11/25 and the other 22/10/25 and the notice
issue date is 19/2/26 for the NIP. I currently have no points on
my license and no speed awareness courses on record in the last
3.5 years according too ndors.org.I am aware of the 14 day rule
and i would like to know what are my best options for this
scenario please? Thankyou Richard

First question, are you the Registered Keeper (i.e. do you have
the V5C document, in your name and current address)?

Hi fuzzyduck . Yes i am the registered keeper . But my V5C is
registered to my old address and the name was spelt wrong on the
V5C and i never corrected it .To addone of the NIPs is spelt
incorrectly like on the V5C the other is correct . The name and
address is correct on my driving license .

Presumably, as you are "aware of the 14 day rule", you will be
aware both that a NIP delivered to the RK's last known address
within the 14 days satisfies the requirements, and that where no
NIP is served on the driver or RK within the 14 days, it is not
a bar to conviction when the accused by his own conduct
contributed to the failure.
For the 44 in a 30, you will not be offered a course, but you
should be offered a fixed penalty. For the 50 in a 30, you will
not be offered a fixed penalty (only offered up to 49). Expect 6
points in court, unless you have a viable defence that you have
chosen not to trouble us with. Obviously, this is assuming that
you comply withe the requirement to name the driver - failing to
do so would earn you 6 points for each NIP.

Thankyou for the response . So it will total 9 points for the
offences and a fixed penalty of £100 for the non court offence.
Will i have too attend court ? And what will there be a bigger
fine for the 6 points?

Correct.
Will i have too attend court ?
Only if the "Single Justice" believes a ban should be
considered, in which case you will be asked to attend a hearing
in the normal Magistrates' Court. Nothing you have said suggests
that will happen so you should be sentenced under the Single
Justice Procedure with no attendance being necessary.
And what will there be a bigger fine for the 6
points?
The court fine should be a week's net income, reduced by a third
for your guilty plea. You will also pay a surcharge of 40% of
that fine and prosecution costs of about £95.

A friend of my partner at work is an ex copper and he is saying
that potentially they might charge me with driving without due
care ? Hes advising me too speak to a solicitor who deals with
driving offences. What is your view on this? Thankyou

My view is “don’t take legal advice from cops” (hint: they’re
not lawyers).
Or to put it another way, he’s talking out of his hoop.

I saw in another post where someone was doing 52 in a 30 that it
was mentioned that the person might get a 52 day ban instead of
6 points? How do you qualify for the 52 day ban instead of
points? thankyou.

Unfortunately there is a lo of rubbish and nonsense posted in
various places about motoring law enforcement.
Magistrates have the power to impose a discretionary
disqualification of any length for any offence which carries an
endorsement. However, they are bound by law to follow the
sentencing guidelines and must give their reasons if they depart
from them. TThe guidelines for speeding are here:
HTML https://sentencingcouncil.org.uk/guidelines/speeding-revised-2017/?source=7510
As you can see, the guideline sentence for 50mpn in a 30mph
limit is either a ban of 7-28 days or between four and six
points and it covers speeds of 41-50mph. The overwhelming
likelihood in your case is six points. This is borne out by
experience of drivers who have reported back after posting on
here and from a few posters who have court experience in various
roles.
My recommendations are twofold:
1. Never, ever, seek or accept legal advice from serving or
former police officers*.
2. If you need any advice of a similar nature in future, stick
to this site. It is effectively moderated; trolling is not
permitted and is quickly shut down; you will get opinions from
people who have a good idea of what they are talking about (as
opposed to nonsensical suggestions such as the latest one you
have learned)..
Do let us know the outcome. This helps us advise others.
[* - Mod edit - this applies to people whose sole
"qualification" for giving legal advice is being an ex-cop.]
