ALL: It had been a quiet, yet undeniably eventful morning for
Kardelen. After Kael’s visit—and the unexpected payment of one
of his slaves for services rendered—she’d needed to see to
outfitting the girl properly for work in the Healing Hut. The
collar of Freeport had been fastened around the girl’s throat,
and Kardelen had supplied her with sturdy boots and green
kirtles warm enough for the lingering cold. During the
examination, she’d explained the rules with calm precision,
ensuring the girl understood her duties before sending her to
join the others in keeping the hut warm and clean.
With that business behind her, Kardelen stepped out into the
village and drew her heavy cloak around her shoulders. She
pulled the hood up over her blonde hair as she paused on the
threshold. The sky was low and overcast, the air sharply
cold—but at least, for the moment, no snow drifted down from the
grey above. She exhaled, a thin cloud of warm breath curling
into the chill as she made her way along the street. The promise
of a late-day meal tugged her forward; her stomach grumbled its
displeasure at being ignored for far too long. The café wasn’t
far, and the thought of warmth, light, and something hearty to
eat quickened her steps.

looked about I saw your unmistakeable form walking down the
street heading our way. Smiling warmly and offering a wave. It
was good to see you and I had to thank you once again for all
your help and discretion and welcoming me to freeport "Tal
Kardelen, its very good to see you. I trust you are well."

ALL: He remained in the dark, dank alleyway, overlooking the
bustling streets as he observed the few free women passing by,
each engrossed in their own business. The early morning sun
barely reached this hidden corner,He had already decided to stay
here for a while, taking the time to think carefully about his
next port of call if there would even be one at all.So for now
he was content to remain in the alleyway and observe the comings
and goings before he would decide to join in the conversations
and such, that hood was tipped lower over those dark shrouded
eyes as he releaxed

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha, NatalieSeamstress: She had been
momentarily lost in her own thoughts as she walked, so when
Mina’s voice called out to her, Kardelen blinked and turned,
blue-grey eyes settling on the Merchant. A warm smile softened
her features as she inclined her head. “Good to see you again,
Lady,” she greeted, her gaze flicking briefly between the
Merchant and the Seamstress—both familiar faces she’d seen
around the village.
“The day has been… interesting so far,” she added with a quiet
laugh, shifting the strap of her bag more comfortably over her
shoulder. “First time I’ve ever been paid in a slave for a
physician’s work—but the girl does seem a worthwhile
investment.” She gave a small, almost helpless shrug, as though
even she wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about it yet.

my pack and listening to your words. I had to chuckle "Well that
is either going to be the best payment that will end up worth
much more then what your service cost or the worst payment as
the slave will never make up for the cost of the service and end
up just costing you more then you may save from having her
available to help. I look forward to hearing which the slave
ends up being. I have to thank you again for the fine care you
gave to me. I am almost fully better and feeling myself again.
In fact I've been looking around the village at potential
locations for a shop."

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha, NatalieSeamstress: Kardelen’s smile
warmed further at Mina’s mention of possibly opening a shop in
Freeport. “I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better!” she
exclaimed, genuine delight threading through her voice. It was
always gratifying to know her work had eased someone’s
discomfort—and even more so to see someone healthy enough to be
planning new beginnings. The village was growing bit by bit, and
as a resident, she found it enjoyable to watch it flourish.
“Oh, that is wonderful news! I’m sure the Merchant Council will
be more than willing to help you find a suitable location,” she
continued. The Council had been especially active of late,
making themselves more visible with all the unease brought on by
rumors of Cosian spies in the port. “Although the cold here
might seep deep into your bones,” she added with a small,
playful smile, “Freeport is still a wonderful place to settle.”

listening as you talk about a council helping and I thought
about that some. Then you spoke about cold weather and I drew my
cloak a bit more tightly around me "Yes, the cold here is
something to get used to. Do the waters of the port ever fully
freeze so that travel by ship is not possible for a time? That
would be important to know when making any plans, Also, as for
keeping warm, well that's one good thing about being so petite,
less of me to worry about keeping warm." I smiled and winked to
both you and Natalie as you were both taller then me though
Kardelen more so

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha: Kardelen laughed softly at Mina’s
remark about being petite, the sound warm and light in the cold
air. “I’m sure after your first winter here you’ll be just
fine,” she assured her with a smile. “As for the port freezing
over… I’ve not seen it myself, not completely. Salt water takes
its time. I’m sure parts of it do ice up, though. Martin
explained that ship travel gets more difficult as we get deeper
into the season.”
She shifted her bag slightly on her shoulder, continuing,
“Larger merchant ships usually manage well enough. The ones from
the north are built with steel plating along the bow so the ice
can’t easily damage them.” Her expression softened with a touch
of pride. “My ship—the one still being built—will have a steel
bow as well. That way I can make runs to the larger markets even
in winter, if needed.” She chuckled quietly. “But the Knife is
still under construction, so it may be a little while yet before
she’s ready to test against any ice.”

--|Primum, non Nocere|--: I listened as you talkeda bout how a
first winter would be the worst and that did make a lot of
sense. You seemed well versed in just about everything about
Freeport and I listened more as you talked about how salt water
would take longer to freeze if at all and that of course the
ships of the north would be designed and built to handle the
cold, ice, and rouger seas. Your voice changed then as well as
your stance and demeanor as you spoke about the ship you were
having built. I saw the pride in your eyes and heard it in your
words and how you spoke them. I too had assets I was proud of
and I sensed in you a kindred spirit about such. "Hmmm such a
fine ship it sounds like Kardelen. I may have to book a
permanent part of one of its holds for transport of my goods. If
such would be agreeable to you I'm sure we can work out an
equitable agreement and of course I would offer any of my wagons
for your use either here or elsewhere as needed."

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha, NatalieSeamstress: “We’ll certainly
see what we can work out, Mina,” she said with a warm nod. “My
ship won’t be the largest by any means—just enough to ferry me
to the major markets and the Fairs. One of my old guards from
Kar has agreed to Captain her, so I’m quite pleased with how the
plans are coming together.”
Her brow arched slightly as Natalie explained her journey.
Kardelen listened, then tilted her head with a curious look.
“Most ferries are far safer than what you’re describing,
Natalie. Did you come here on a slaver’s vessel? Or a pirate
ship, perhaps? That’s what it sounds like to me.”

discussing more business opportunities with you Kardelen. Oh,
speaking of such while I was resting I was able to send a
message and a shipment has arrived. Soil samples, fertilizer
samples, as well as some of the seeds for various herbs and
plants and even a few small plants as well. I have them stored
at one the warehouses at the docks and the seeds and plants are
in my room at the inn where they can stay a bit warmer. Any
progress on your greenhouse plans?" I heard what you said to
Natalie and that was curious some for as you said there were
many types of ships and not all of them friendly.

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha: She frowned slightly at the mention of
the greenhouse plans. “My brother hasn’t arrived in Freeport
yet,” she admitted, “but he’s written to assure me he’ll be in
touch very soon.” Her shoulders lifted in a small shrug. “For
now, I’ve been given a bit of space in the communal greenhouse.
I moved the plants that needed overwintering there, and the rest
are lined up along a wall in my cabin near the hearth.”
A quiet chuckle escaped her at the thought. “Not that we
entertain much or need the space. Martin hasn’t minded the extra
greenery—he knows it’s the only way they’ll survive the cold.”
The plants still dormant in her garden would remain so till
spring, so she wasn’t overly worried. “But once you’ve found a
proper place to offload your goods that isn’t a warehouse,” she
added with a smile, “we can absolutely talk about special seed
plantings.”

--|Primum, non Nocere|--: "A bit of extra greenery can only
brighten up a space especially with it being so overcast and
cold here for a time. I would think the bit of color would be
welcomed as a reminder of the coming spring after what hopefully
is not too harsh a winter. And that sounds wonderful. I can keep
the plants and seeds with me at the Inn until a place of my own
is found or built and the other goods can stay at the warehouse
for a time but I will hold off on having any more brought for
now, at least of those types of items. Other samples I may have
sent for the council to see what kind of goods my shop will
sell"

Lady MinaCaste of Mercha: "That does indeed sound like a solid
plan Mina, and I agree, the fresh air and greenery in the cabin
has been a huge help. At least going so far as improving my own
mood," She said with a chuckle. "Martin is out in the woods so
often it brings me comfort to have my plants around. I am
hopeful he returns from his latest trip soon," She smiled
fondly.
"But I look forward to you settling down and finding a place, as
I said when you're ready to do so," She waved to Natalie as she
took off. "The Merchant Council will be very likely to help you
set up a shop, I believe they are looking to increase trade as
always." she chuckled. "You I am sure know how Merchants can
be."
