Generally, how do you know if a fragrance will be reformulated?

Basically, I read about about YSL la nuit de l'homme. How great
it is and all. until the reformulation.
So of course, for people that knew it was coming, or heard the
news in time, probably bought a decent amount of the original
formula.
So how does one know if a certain fragrance will be
reformulated? or, atleast, where do you go to hear the news in
time to stock up before the reformulation ones hit?
I ask because I am interested in D&G the one EDP. And if it
turns it out I DO like it, but i figure that out to late, and it
gets reformulated, ill be out of luck.

I think, if the perfume house is know to do reformulations, it
is very probable that they will keep doing so.
Also, sometimes regulations change and some ingredients are
banned, so the companies have to reformulate their fragrances. i
would look if any new regulation banning something comes and
then i would look if any of my favorites use this ingredient.
i would also expect best sellers with polemic notes to be
reformulated. Like, if something sells a lot, but people
complain about a specific note, i would expect the fume to be
reformulated to tone that note down.
i have also seen people complain about old 80's powerhouses
being watered down. It seems like people think it is impolite to
have a fragrance with heavy sillage. So, i would expect anything
that projects like crazy to be reformulated.
But sometimes, there is really no way to know for sure ( at
least i don't know any fool proof way of doing it), but it is a
very good question, i will be happy to read other

Well, for starters certain designers are notorious for it. For
instanc, Beloved Dior? Buy it immediately upon release or forget
about it. lol They are almost guarenteed to reformulate with a
year or two.
Also, as mentioned above, certain notes are being banned left
and right. Try to keep up on the current list of ingredients
added to the regulations list and if something you love contains
that ingredient, buy back ups. I recently heard Saffron is being
banned. So I'm stocking up on my favorite Saffrons as they'll
likely change to a synthetic saffron or pull the note out
altogether very soon.

All. Perfumes. Get. Reformulated.
Period. Some niche perfumers might just discontinue a perfume
instead but otherwise? It happens. Why? Because ingredients
become rare, or too expensive. Because regulations change. There
are a host of reasons but perfume and reformulation is something
that happens. You can get bent out of shape over it or you can
test the new fragrance and if you still like it then on you go,
if you don't find a new fragrance.
That's not meant to be mean or flippant, it's just how the world
works. Reformulation is part of life. I actually PREFER some
reformulated perfumes to their originals so it isn't necessarily
a BAD thing, it's all up to taste, but in general: it's gonna
happen.

if it smells really freaking good and its beastly projection and
its by Dior, then you know its going to be reformulated.

Everything gets reformulated. The vast number of reformulations
are so good and consistent that they are very difficult to
detect. Some houses are better at reformulation than others.
Off the top of my head, Guerlain and Elizabeth Arden are
generally good. Dior is often not-so-good.
It's like plastic surgery or a toupee...you only notice that bad
ones.
