FOTM lvl50 - lvl80 Preparation (BC)

---------------------------------------------------------
FAQ Section;
[I feel we should start with this first as I want you guys to
have both reasons as well as motivations before you attempt to
upgrade your PR above 50]
[The title is FOTM lvl50 - lvl80 Preparation (BC) which means
these are the FAQ that occurs BEFORE the new fractals are out.
Once new fractals are out, there will be another thread titled
FOTM lvl50 - lvl80 Preparation (AD)]
[That being said, to those who have already achieved PR50, do
not forget to PM me, miranda or tanky to change your rank to
Fractal Ninja]
[That being said, to those who have already achieved PR60, do
not forget to PM me, miranda or tanky to change your rank to
Fractal Matrix]
[That being said, to those who have already achieved PR80, do
not forget to PM me, miranda or tanky to change your rank to
Fractal Maker]
Q: Why do FOTM lvl51 to progress your PR? Why can't you do FOTM
lvl50 for the dailies?
A: At the time of this post (16th October 2013), you cannot
survive maw starting FOTM lvl50. It matters not if you have 55
Agony Resistance as maw deals about 1006%HP damage during his
agony attack. Several attempts has been tried. Orb of
Resurrection, 99% resurrection, Down/Rally for 2 seconds
invulnerability, Mesmer's instant portal/resurrection, Ranger's
summon tanking damage, Elementalist's Mist form, Warrior's
endure pain, Guardian's 5x Tome Of Courage and whatever tricks
out there that has been attempted based on me talking to others
members has never worked! Such is why you need to odd level
fractals to avoid maw just to progress your PR!
Q: If maw are unpassable starting FOTM lvl50+, why are there
people that are at PR80 already?
A: Back then before the patch, it's still possible to pass maw
using the 99% trick. These people probably would've already done
these several times to increase their PR to whatever PR level
they wish to reach. Just in case you have no idea about what 99%
trick is, it means to resurrect one of the team member to 99%
before the death of the 2 tentacles, got WIPED due to the agony
damage and then the other 4 checkpoints, quickly return to that
99% guy and resurrect him to a 100% while he resurrects the rest
of the 4 party members.
Q: So how do I increase my PR beyond 50?
A: You would have to find these people who are at PR above 50,
party with them and make sure that they're in the same server as
you before you enter Fractals Of The Mist (must also be in LA
map) and then you can host the Fractal level at whatever PR
they're at. For example, if you party with someone who's at
PR61, then even though your PR is at 49, you can host 61! After
that, you just keep doing odd level continuously to increase
your PR.
Q: Who should I look for to open PR beyond 50? I'm having
trouble finding them.
A: You don't have to worry about that. Just check member
rankings that are Fractal Ninja (Whose PR ranges from
lvl50-lvl59) and Fractal Matrix (Whose PR ranges from
lvl60-lvl79) and Fractal Maker (Whose PR rangers from lvl80
onwards). Guild FOTM has already taken care of that problem for
you. What's left is your own initiative. Don't be afraid to ask
them to open for you whenever you want to run those high level
fractals. Get your party ready though 'cause chances are that
people who have already done those levels will not want to join
in your party to do those levels.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Why do FOTM50+ to begin with? No dailies means no relics and
a chance to get ascended weapon.
A: Okay, I am going to divide my answer into segments since
there are currently plenty of reasons to why you should progress
your PR above 50.
1st - Higher chance of precursors + great loots!
Do you guys remember the time when it's still easy to obtain
precursors from Claw Of Jormag? That's because at that time, the
% drop for precursors are still high (That's why the legendary
great sword 'Twilight' became somewhat mainstream). However upon
the Nerf, I have yet to hear from someone that they'd obtained a
precursor from Jormag -_-. Not to mention aNet also nerved the
chance to get precursors from the mystic pool at the same time
(Leading people to believe that it should be called Mystic
Toilet instead). The exciting fact is that the loot system in
the FOTM50+ has NOT YET been changed/updated to the current one!
Which means that whatever % precursors drop at Jormag/Mystic
back then is still viable in FOTM50+. In my own experience, I've
already ran with 3 groups between by journey of lvl50 till lvl70
and 3 of the people have gotten precursors from bosses
(Specifically, 'The Legend' from Jellyfish, 'The Hunter' from
Mossman and 'Zap' from Captain Ashim). This fact alone leads me
to believe that you'll get different precursors from various
bosses though this theory has not yet been confirmed. Myself,
I've gotten so many exotics and rares from the chest drop
itself. I have a feeling this fact is one of the reason why aNet
made maw un-killable starting from lvl50 onwards.
2nd - 3 new fractal stages!
As we know from the wins of Ellen Kiel back in the day of
'Cutthroat Politcs'
(
HTML http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cutthroat_Politics),
aNet did
promise us the 3 new fractal stage. First being Molten Facility,
second being Aetherblade Retreat and third being Thaumanova
Reactor since Ellen Kiel won! The thing about these 3 new
fractals are that we know NOTHING about at all! We don't know if
they're as short as swamp or as long as dredge. One thing we do
know of is the fact that it's going to take time to learn about
them, the mechanics and all which will make you progressing
above PR50+ longer (assuming that aNet's going to open lvl50+
after these 3 new fractals are out)
3rd - Shortcuts!
You know how we can 'cheese' mossman/bloomhunger just by using
ranger/engineer, or the 'dont kill the target' as well as the
'stacking during boss drops hammer' in collosus, or the 'mesmer
portal' to avoid the harpy stage and the dredge stage and any
other 'shortcuts' you find in fractals? Chances are that these
shortcuts are definitely going to be fixed! Which means that the
amount of time taken for you to clear those stages are going to
be increased thus you're going to be spending more time then you
should just to level your PR!
4th - Ascended Armors!
This is purely speculation but not based on a rumor. At the
moment itself, the new ascended weapon are already 'farmable'
starting FOTM26 (Higher chance to obtain them in higher levels)
which is why most of the Fractal Master I know ended up farming
dailies for lvl48, lvl38 and lvl28 everyday. What makes you
think that the new ascended armor isn't going to drop in FOTM as
well? The 'code' is already inside the game which means that
they're definitely going to release it. The question is just
'when and where?'. I mean, the first time they introduce
ascended trinkets, they've made it farmable in FOTM (rings), so
I have a feeling that they're going to include it in fractals as
well. Again, this might not be true as what I'm doing is just
speculation but then, there's no harm in doing a little bit of
'planning ahead'. For all you know, you're going to get one box
which allows you to choose light, medium, heavy set of the given
specific stats similar to that of ascended weapon chest.
5th - Challenge!
For those of you who've grown bored doing FOTM48 all the way,
FOTM50+ is a great challenge. Most of the mobs (not bosses) are
level 81 and above depending on how high above 50 you're at.
These mobs hits really REALLY hard! When I said hard, I don't
mean 3 shot-down kind of hard. I meant 1 shot-kill kind of hard!
So you've got to work on your defenses, no more Zerk gear, no
more taking it easy. It's all going to be full of challenges
ahead of you! Good thing is that once you've cleared everything
above PR50 and you go back to lvl48, it's all going to seem so
easy! It's just like going back to lvl10 when your PR is already
at 48.
6th - Derp boss!
At times during the moment of my fighting, the boss sometimes
got 'derped' in a sense that they do not attack you at all! They
just stand infront of you, stares at you and do nothing while
you dps them. I do not know what is causing this to happen but
one thing I do know of is that it sure made it easier for us to
finish 'em off! Also, I've never experienced this below 50! So I
assume that aNet hasn't fix anything yet above 50+. The
following are some of the screenshots which I took during such
event.
Collosus stage - The Legendary Arch diviner who just stares at
my face!

7th - For Glory!
Ever heard of those people who says that they're so good at
fractals just because they've got 8 of their toons at PR48 as
they walk around LA hogging all the attention to themselves?
Well..... why don't you try and get back at them by saying 'you
may have 8 toons at PR48, but I've got one toon at PR80! How do
you like them apples now?'
8th - Higher PR = better rewards.
I've got several people that says that they seem to get more
loots when doing 48 while their PR is at 50/60 compared to when
their PR is at 48. Truth be told in my own experience, I don't
see much significance when my PR is at 50 but I did notice that
I've gotten more rares in my daily 48 when my PR is 60. Then
again, this is my own personal experience. Do your own
experiment and tell me how it went for you guys. This doesn't
only apply to the daily chest that contains the fractal relic
after you've defeated the bosses but it also applies to the loot
you received from random mobs.
9th - Repair Canister!
Again, this is purely speculation! I'm just basing this on SAB
truth be told. You know how in the past when you do SAB Trib
mode, when you die, you can just log out, re-enter the game
again thus avoiding purchasing the infinite continue coin? Well
they certainly fix that! (Which means that you have no choice
but to purchase the 'infinite continue coin'). I think it goes
the same way as well with the new fractals, like how when you
need repairs you can log out, repair in LA and then go back in?
This time you probably can't go back in and you have no choice
but to use repair canisters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Is it possible that after the new fractals are out, they
would reset everyone's PR back to 50 for those who've already
obtained above 50?
A: It is possible but not likely. I mean, for those who have
already done SAB world 1 back in the day, when SAB world 2 comes
out did your achievement from world 1 got reset? The items you
got are still there, the achievement you've done are still
there; so based on that fact alone, I am going to assume that
they're not going to reset it back to 50. Also, I know several
people that has already gone beyond PR50. I think if they do
that, a lot of people are going to get angry. Not to mention the
fact that if they intend to reset our PR back to 50, why put so
much effort into making FOTM lvl50+ undo-able to begin with?
Q: When will the new fractals be out?
A: Assuming that aNet updates their program once a year, it's
safe to say that the new fractals will be out around middle of
November since Fractals Of The Mist itself was released back
then on the 16th November 2012 (Based on
HTML http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractals_of_the_Mists).
It might
be earlier so that they can quickly figure out the bugs and fix
it by middle of November or it might be end of November as well
if they have not completely finish designing the new fractals
and it's rewards system or such.
Q: So do you think there will be enough time to get to PR80?
Assuming my PR is 50 at the moment, I should still have about 1
month left at the time of this post right (18th October 2013)?
A: Truth be told, I'm not sure there are a lot of time left. You
must also not forget the fact that new events are being released
such as Halloween and the new WvW achievements which means that
people are going to be ignoring fractals for a while and
focusing to get achievements on those 2 events instead. Not to
mention, while these 2 events are up, it's going to be harder to
find yourself a party member that will do fractals with you at
the same time, weekdays while they're schooling/working.
Q: On FOTM48, dredge takes approximately about 20-30 mins
(depending on the wipe). Does the dredge above 50+ takes longer?
A: It takes about the same time but with 2X the loot! In my own
experience, I got about 40+ bags during that 20-30mins of dredge
at 48 while 80+ bags during that 20-30mins of dredge at 77. This
is probably because the scaling system hasn't really been
adjusted yet for the FOTM50+. So after the new fractals, either
they're going to make the dredge spawn less at FOTM48 and below
or the dredge spawn more at FOTM50+ assuming fractals 50 and
above are already playable.
Q: What is the maximum PR one can reach at the moment?
A: The maximum PR is 80!
Q: I met this guy that can open FOTM81! Why don't we increase
our PR to 81 instead of 80?
A: aNet apparently has patched this. You can try partying up
with him and yes, you will be able to host 81 upon entering the
fractals of the mist portal. However when you get inside, you
can see that the level that you hosted has been downgraded to 80
instead even though you opened 81 in-front! The reason why the
guy is able to host 81 is probably because of the fact that he
has already done up to PR81 before aNet has patched the limit to
80.

Now that I've already answered most of your questions, I shall
start by prepping you guys for what's coming ahead.
In any case, I've divided these into a few sections which I
think you guys should be aware of.
Again, this itself is based on my own experience!
=========
Requirement
=========
- At least 55AR (On some occasion, 45AR is fine but to be safe
just go with 55AR)
- Character at PR50 (It actually doesn't really matter but
personally, I just feel that it's a waste if you're doing lvl67
to increase your PR from 49 to 50)
- At least 3 hours of free time dedicated to go through 1 FOTM
run starting 50+
- At least have the following skills ready in 1 group;
Interrupts, Reflects, Stability, Healing, Pulling.
======
Attitude
======
- Be patient;
You may experience several wipes due to the mobs hitting hard!
No trashing team members, no blaming, no rage quitting, no
AFK-ing. None of that sort. From my own experience, the longest
run I've got so far while increasing my PR from 50 onwards was
up to 4 hours! What we got was swamp, collosus and ascalon. Some
of you might say "Pfft, ascalon" but note that what you'll be
experiencing in lvl71 and lvl48 will be very very different!
Those mobs hits so hard that we got wiped at every stack before
we even got to ashim. To make matters worse because of some
'glitchy' stuff our NPC somehow started running to the middle as
well from the spawn camp instead of following us.
=======
Teamwork
=======
- Be mindful;
Keep close eyes on your friends and prioritize resurrecting them
above all else (Except for certain situations of course such as
during shaman's spawn of grubs and such). Your team mate's dps
matters, their support matters and at times, their 'distraction'
matters. That being said, if you're dying too many times, you'll
be considered as a burden after 50+. So the way I measure it is,
change your gear to an even more defensive one if you're dying
more then 3 times in 1 fractal stage!
=======
Playstyle
=======
- Be defensive;
You know those runs you do from lvl1 all the way to lvl48? Then
you expect them to know everything and some of you might even
get away by using a full zerk gear? It's not going to happen
here! Starting 51 and above, the mobs are going to be levelled
at 81-84! That's about 1-4 levels ahead of you. Just in case you
don't really know what it means, 1lvl higher means approximately
25% more damage from what they normally deal. That being said,
when they're at lvl 84, you'll be hit twice as hard as what
you've experienced in lvl48! So if those mobs already 1hit-down
you on 48, you can already imagine what they'd do to you when
they're at higher levels. I don't know whats the minimum
requirement but as far as I've experienced myself, I need a
minimum of at least around 2500 toughness to change from
1hit-kill to 2hit-down. Also, some of the mobs are known to rip
through aegis! You can definitely dodge them but there's so much
you can dodge when 15 dredges sends up to 40+ shock waves
towards you.
