Re: Equal cars still not equal - can I swap?

I kinda understand what you mean nashy ....
I know I made a claim about it last time you brought this up but
I drove as a reserve in a league over the weekend and they put
me in a Red Bull and that car was god awful in my opinion. My
setup in that car was just crap and I don't really know why. I
had similar issues with the Renault.

I was wondering when you made that claim, whether you'd actually
driven any other cars!
I think the problem is that TCS is just so effective this year
that it's all about cornering speed on some circuits. So people
are jacking the wings up to 11/11 and can go flat out through
the corners. What I think is that some cars have a base
downforce value that's lower than others. So, something like the
Merc which is a low downforce car in real life maybe has less
downforce on 11/11 than other cars. Nothing you can do about it.
I'm surprised about the Red Bull, because I thought that was a
high downforce car in real life.
It's frustrating because I've started doing Time Trial a bit as
practice and have some really good times on Silverstone and now
Nurburgring (without deliberately using the run off areas to
gain extra speed like some of the other guys with fast times
seem to), but I know I'll still be struggling to get a win in
the race. I can usually hang on for a podium but if I've got the
pace to win that's a bit hard to take, especially if I make no
mistakes in the race.
The only good news is that I think it's not such a problem with
TCS off, since you can't take the corners flat out, even with
11/11 wings. So you actually have to start making sensible
set-up decisions - balancing corner speed with straight line
speed. My career set-ups (no assists) are different from
multiplayer. So if the league is going to be run without assists
next year then it should be a lot more even between the cars.
The Ferrari may still be a dud however!

I stand my ground on the basis about it really shouldn't matter
what car you drive, as you can "morph" the cars to be "equal" by
changing the setup but that's unrealistic. But this requires the
average joe that plays this game to know everything about a
setup and be able to know how to change it so that the cars ARE
equal. In fact, what ****es me off even more about the setups is
that the quick setup doesn't make the car any faster by changing
the setup to dry, it just changes the wing and leaves everything
else down the center. It is pretty much forcing you to change
the settings for all your low speed corners so that you can be
quick.
In terms of the Red Bull I was talking about, I think it just
had to do with switching the McLaren setup that I have to drive
a Red Bull. Those two aren't really "compatible" with each other
and although I could probably do one or two laps and get decent
results, over a 50% race it's frustrating. I have no problems
interchanging Sauber and McLaren setups though :D
I said it before and I'll say it again. I would have no problem
with you switching teams, Supanash. Josh and Livo switched teams
a few races into the season with everyone's ok. You got my vote.
