Equal cars still not equal - can I swap?
By: supanash Date: November 29, 2011, 1:49 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Some guys over on the CM forum did some testing of the 'equal'
online cars and found the following:

RankCarsDrivers

1McLarenGazza, Drew

2Williams, Force India, Sauber,
HRTLivo, YZ, Macca, Gun

3Ferrari, Mercedes, VirginNash,
Striker

4Red Bull, Torro Rosso, Lotus,
RenaultKiwi, Beno

My own simple testing with Mercedes, Williams and FI is similar.
I've been switching between Mercedes (which I used to use all
the time) and Williams or FI in public lobbies. Both Williams
and FI are a lot easier to drive.
So, I'd like to swap out of the crappy Merc into the Williams.
Hopefully my teammate has no objections and will make the move
with me. I also suggest that Kiwi and Beno move from Red Bull to
HRT if they want to. Then at least we'll have all the regular
drivers in a rank 1 or 2 car.
Everyone ok with that?

I wouldn't mind of a car switch, but I DO have a hard time
believing that the equal cars are not equal.
There's no REAL way to prove that, you can drive as consistently
as you want but it is nearly impossible to do every lap exactly
the same. I have read something similar about this, and all I
have to say is who really takes notice of it? Yes, the cars may
have different handling capabilities, but that's what the setup
is for. With all the different configurations to morph a car
into a balance and driving style you like, I really don't know
what all the fuss is about. Just play the game and do the best
you can with what you're given.
(This post was not in any way directed towards you Ajay, just
simply venting about this topic because it frustrates me)

This is old news. It's why I changed from Renault to Sauber. So
of course I would be a hypocrite if I objected.
Codemasters can't patch this just like they can't do a lot of
things right. I honestly enjoyed last years game better.
@ Drew - Testing proved that its not just handling that differs
but top speed. They proved that with the same set up in an
online race Ferrari was about 10kph slower on the straight at
Spa. Even Codemasters themselves admitted that equal wasn't
actually equal because they can't change the wheel bases or aero
efficiencies of the cars.
HUGE FAIL when you consider that their whole marketing approach
was an improved online system!

Judging by the lap times in quallifying and in race mode there
is not a lot in it and everyone is running different set ups so
i don't think changing cars because of an article is posted on
another site is up for discussion. I agree with Drew as
different people set there car up for the way they drive on a
particular track, and some people are faster on certian tracks
so changing your car is not going to make a difference. As Drew
said last night he thought he would go well at valencia, he had
a good set up but could not put it together on the night, so it
didn't matter whether his car was 5 sec faster than everyone
elses he still made mistakes and it cost him dearly. Sorry Drew
just using you as an example. My opinion is you keep the car you
got drawn and just get on with it, but not to fast nashy because
you are leading the championship, lol. ;D

Hey Supanash, I am not trying to be a Hitler and dictate terms,
this league is all about everyone having an input on what
happens, and if everyone agrees to you changing cars then so be
it, majority rules and I can't stop that, but Livo changed cars
at the start of the season and that was all cool, we are now 7
races into the season and i find it a bit odd to be changing
cars when your lap times are fast and you are leading the
championship. It would be nice to change cars if you were a bit
slower than the other but this is a simulation game and in the
real world you don't get that opportunity. Like I said if you
and Striker want to change cars and everyone agrees than it's
all good with me, then the draw that I thought was the fairest
way to allocate cars and teams was a waste of time.

I agree Gaz. And Nash whats the problem you are leading the
championship and won the last race by a large margin so your car
surely cant be that bad.
Just stick with it mate... If I had to put money on any driver
winning the drivers championship it would be you.

The draw was fine, based on what we knew at the time. If we did
the draw again though I reckon we wouldn't necessarily go with
the top 6 manufacturers from real life though. I'm sure no-one
would want the Ferrari for example.

The rules shouldn't change based on where you are in the
championship. Having tried other cars online now, I just feel
I'm at an unfair disadvantage in the Merc. It might all be in my
head, but I really don't think so. Would you swap your Force
India for a Ferrari? If I'm wrong and the cars are totally equal
then what difference does it make if I swap?
Anyway, it sounds like everyone thinks I'm just being a whinging
pom, so I'll just stick with the Merc and make do.

I'd still be driving the Ferrari if my teammate hadn't pulled
out of the league. I was happy for gun to join me at Ferrari!
All I wanted was a teammate driving the same car as me. But
nashy if it means that much to you to change cars I'm not going
to stop you. Does this mean we will all fight for the mclaren
for season 2?

That's ok, I'll stick with the Merc rather than cause any
bother. I just wasn't expecting anyone to object!

Hate to bring this up again, but I did some more testing over
the weekend and I now want to swap cars again! The difference in
performance is quite large on some circuits.
So I plan to use the Williams from now on. If you want to kick
me out of the league for being a pain in the arse, that's fine.
I'd rather be out than carry on in a car that I feel is worse
than everyone else has.
The other thing is that I was ill yesterday, and still don't
feel that great this morning, so I might not make tonight's
race. I'll have to see how I go.
