Guys..
Just read something online about this game having a bug with
anti-roll bars/wings/springs and setting them all 11? First i'm
hearing about this...is it true?
Just drove around Malaysia in time trials with it and it seems
like a really crazy bug! I drove around arcade style on pretty
much every turn. Another element of this game that really is
beginning to turn me off.
Did anyone use this setup at Melbourne today?

Good to hear...surprised I haven't heard about it either.
Thought it would be something I would at least hear you guys
talk about, but not such.

As far as I knew the bug is mainly for the springs. It's a
shame, because it takes away a big part of the game for me. All
of the realistic handling disappears and the car becomes a super
grippy arcade racer. Combined with TCS it's almost impossible to
lose control of the car, no matter how much you throw it around.

I agree. It takes away a huge part of what I enjoy about the
game. I remember having 20% races in 2010 where lots of people
would be struggling with car control, spinning more than once in
a race. How many people spun at all last night? It's turning
racing into a series of time trial laps.
It's one of the reasons I'm avoiding online at the moment (apart
from our Tuesday races). I can't believe that CM won't fix it
though. In career mode I deliberately don't set the springs
higher than 6 or 7 because I know that would give me an unfair
advantage. I know that some leagues run on racedepartment are
insisting that people don't set their springs higher than a
certain amount (usually 6, 7, or 8 ).

Based on the lap times I would say just about everyone apart
from you! And that includes me I have to admit. Not sure if mine
were set to 11-11, but they were definitely 8+. Online it seems
you're faced with two options:
1. Have a realistic handling model by setting the springs to
7ish or less and be 3 seconds off the pace
2. Have an arcade racer by setting high springs
Neither is very appealing to me, so I hope CM patch it soon. If
they do, all the people who use 11-11 all the time might get a
sudden shock when their car suddenly won't stay on the track!
I suppose the third option, which racedepartment have taken, is
to get people to agree not to exploit the bug. Any thoughts on
that? Of course that only works in a private league. In a public
lobby you can be sure that some people will know about the 11-11
spring settings and be using it.

I was getting that feeling as well Nash, I felt like I was
literally driving in the twilight zone. I can't believe that I
didn't hear a peep about this until I did some investigating
after the race today. I was using a setup that I had gotten from
online, I think before the bug was even detected. My suspension
was set to 2-2-11-6.
I think the part of it that was really disturbing the most was
the fact that I was literally pushing the car to go the fastest
it could go (and towards the end of the race, the reason why I
was getting all the penalties.
Just spent about an hour or so online with Striker though, kinda
trying to understand the basic steps on what different car
setups due to your car. So I think my race at Malaysia may be a
little better.
Next thing I have to work on is getting through a qualifying
session without blowing up an engine ::) ...I'm 0 for about 20
now.

yeah, I am guilty of using 11,11 on the springs, not considered
it as an exploit, only a bug, and I am sure it will be fixed on
next patch, along with the graphics on the ps3.
Would be quite happy to set springs no higher than 8,8 if
everyone agrees, would make for better racing, for sure ( got
the last bit from real F1 drivers) lol.

CM have said they are trialling a fix for this already, which is
good.
I had my first few races in public lobbies the other night. It's
clear that not everyone knows about the bug. In my first race at
Melbourne I could tell from the quali times that 11-11 was in
use, so I did the same and put in a crazy time of 1:18.x and won
the race from pole. Then I did a race without quali, also at
Melbourne and once again loaded up my 11-11 setup, assuming that
everyone knew about it. I started at the very back and came
through to win. Saw the best lap times posted on the results
screen - mine was in the low 1:20s next best was 1:24! I
recognised the PSN name of the second placed driver as someone
I'd had some really close races with in 2010. He messaged me
after to congratulate me on the win and my 'amazing' pace, and
asked for my setup. I was too embarrassed to reply :)
So, until CM fix it, online is broken for me.
One good thing I noticed is that the racing is a lot cleaner
than last year. Or maybe I just got lucky with that.

I'd say you just got lucky, as I've had a hell of a time with
certain people in quick game mode...maybe I'll chalk it down to
people trying to learn the game.
Another thing to keep in mind is it was so easy to get into
online races in 2010, this year with the "VIP Credentials" , not
any joe schmo could get into online races without buying the
extra pass off of PSN. I feel like only people who are really
serious about racing will do such.

I never play the quick modes. Always do custom races 20% or
longer.

Oh ok, noted. But still lucky in my opinion! ;)
