It might make less pits tops but it may make the racing closer.

Apparently the tyres do wear, its just that the wear is not
accelerated for 25%-50% races....ie, the wear is the same as for
a 100% race.

Hopefully the wear is also affected by how you drive e.g.
aggressive driving, lock ups and gravel. To be honest 1 stop is
probably better than the couple of races where 3 and 4 stops
were required in 2011, hopefully at these tracks there is at
least some consideration to doing a 2 stopper in 50% this year.
I think another thing that will make online suffer is the parc
ferme rule, while good on race day, using quali sessions to work
on setup won't be possible as it is locked after the first time
you leave the garage. Without an online mode practice session,
dialing in a setup is going to suck.

Yes, I never suggested that tyre wear was off altogether. Just
that it doesn't get multiplied up for shorter races.

We'll have to wait and see, but I think it will make the racing
less close. If there were no stops at all I reckon the field
would just spread out in grid order, more or less. The more
stops there are, the more you can try to improve your finishing
spot with some strategy - either by pitting earlier, later or
doing one extra or one less stop than the people around you.
Also gives you more chances to repair any damage you may have
picked up without losing too much time.

You're right, but I want to believe I am in a real F1 cockpit ;D
What surprises me is that CM said they wanted to recreate what
it feels like to be in a race. They talked about stuff like
maintaining heat in your tyres, and driving style affecting
wear. That's all great and, as far as I know, it's still in the
game. So it's a bit odd that you don't get the full effect of
tyre wear on strategy unless you do 100% races.
I'll still buy the game, but it seems a strange decision. It
would be nice to know why they went that way.

Taken from my friend's review that he put on RaceDepartment:
Gentleman I have recently received F1 2012, and I am here to
alleviate some of your worrisome concerns. For starters the
graphics are noticeably better, especially in the details of
other cars around you on the track. I know that tire deg, or
lack there of, has been a concern to many on forum. I did a 50%
race in Montreal, starting on the Primes and the deg started on
around lap 8 and by lap 12-13 the performance was pretty much
gone from the tires. The tires also have more noticeable grip in
them, what I mean is that there appears to be less wheel spin,
especially on the start. Noticeable differences are the braking.
It is now much easier to lock up the brakes than it was before.
Very cool that you can now alter the braking balance from inside
the car. The neutral setup of the car is now one more in the
direction of understeer, I haven't tweaked the setup yet please
note. In terms of handling I would say this game is slightly
more challenging due to the fact that you really have to keep
the rear tires loaded under medium speed corners, or the back
will dramatically step out as a result. One negative I have is
with the sound, I believe it doesn't sound as realistic as the
previous game and seems a little more arcade in its delivery.
This could also be due to the face that I've been so acclimated
to the sound of 2011, so time will tell in this regard. Another
is in regards to the DRS, there is now no sound difference when
the wing is open or an audible alert to the driver of when one
can use DRS. At the same time this is probably a more realistic
application of the device, but you're now going to have to pay
closer attention while racing. The biggest positive is Austin,
what an unbelievable track and very challenging! Depending on
your camera angle, the entry to turn 1 will appear to be almost
blind. The second sector is very, very quick and challenging.
The maggots/becketts complex is even more challenging than that
of Silverstone because the entry is nearly blind as well. As an
American this makes me very proud and happy to have one of the
best circuits in the world. I hope that this positive step will
lead to many more in terms of boosting F1 here. Time will tell
if the fan base grows in the US, but I believe this is Tilke's
best track yet.

Thanks for posting Andrew!
1 less thing for me to worry about then - scaled tyre deg.
