Trip to Albany - Western Australia
By: Catherine Date: April 29, 2012, 12:04 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Albany is a great historical town at the bottom of Western
Australia. If you keep heading south of the coast, you wind up
in Antarctica. Albany is a 4 and a bit hour drive south of WA’s
capital city Perth. It was formerly a whaling station and in
colonial days, it launched the ships that took the Anzacs and
       horses to war.
A cousin who is living with me needed a new temporary home for
her cat so we took her cat Finneus to a friend willing to have
him for a stnt…. Plus, Finneus mouse catching skills are
required so it’s not like he won’t earn his keep. ;)
I won’t post all the pictures but will leave a representational
of some of the views I saw… but really, the journey and place
was AWESOME. It’s known for its cold wind and rain well I missed
all of that. I had a PERFECTLY still 2 days of PERFECT Autumn
temperatures however, it was very cloudy so most of the pictures
       have grey tones.
Halfway was a town called Williams…. After you ride through the
Darling Ranges, you strike wheat and sheep country, the subject
of many early Australian paintings and all time favourites since
Australia‘s prosperity “grew on the sheep’s back.” ( an Aussie
       saying ).

This was some of the view I had at the place I stayed... notice
how glassy the water in the estuary was? If you have a spare
$900,000.00 you can buy an old beach shack there at Mt Melville
       Albany....lol

Albany is home to a few natural features… the blow hole which I
did not see although we were in the vicinity…. The Gap and The
Natural Bridge which was worth the effort to trek to see. I’m
going back one day soon I hope.

Trees are stupendous but really, is there any tree more regal
than eucalypts? I can’t imagine so.
When I take pictures of the landscape its for future references
       to oil paintings.
