Another day [Arundel castle, afternoon]

The Ivory keep was never short on commotion. Footsteps echoed
through the long corridors, the sound of talking emanated from
almost all directions. Whether it be the servants working about
their daily routines, highborns conversing about the latest news
in the foyer, or the king and queen granting an audiance to
those who sought it, the castle was truly always alive.
From the corridor that lead to the vast library, soft footsteps
could be heard along with the gentle swoosh of fabric. Even
before she rounded the corner the distinct scent of amber and
lotus danced on the gentle breeze from the open windows. The
figure that rounded the corner was cloaked in red fabric, silks
and satins, with minimal black detailing on the skirt and
sleeves. A single ebony covered bound book was carried softly
in her elegant fingers. The girl's golden hair fell gracefully
to her shoulders, framing her elegant face, allowing her
haunting blue eyes to be the stand out feature. This girl was
Katrina, the sole heir to the Arundel Kingdom, a young princess
of 10.
As she traversed the halls, watching the daily hustle and
bustle, her face betrayed nothing of her boredom of the daily
activity. It was her place to learn to be the lady of the court
that she was meant to be, and she was excelling at her role.
Brushing her hair back behind her ears she entered the throne
room just as the last citizen finished seeking an audience with
her parents. Giving the king and queen a deep bow, Katrina made
her daily appearance before her time with her tutors and
trainers. Keeping the book she carried obscured from the view
of the king and queen, she exchanged idle pleasantries, knowing
much of the same would be repeated at the supper table that
evening. Day in, day out it was always the same.
After an hour seated in her seat next to the throne, she was
allowed to leave, to head to her training. This was the time
she looked forward too. Granted there was about as much
spontaneity in her training and tutoring as there was in a court
function, she could at least let her smile down. There was also
always that time afterwards, that bit of unscripted time, that
she could seek refuge in the depths of the library, back where
many didn't know existed, and those that did not dare to tread.

a man stands in the corridors eyes closed and a soft smile
played on his face as if he was thinking pleasant things, his
white hair seemed to glow platinum in the flames of the torches
that lined the somewhat darkened corridors "hello young
mistress...." his eyes opened to reveal soft brown eyes that
seemed to carry wisdom, kindness, and so much knowledge although
he was only 21 years of age. this was Sir Cedric Cartwright.
Adviser to the Young Mistress Katrina. A knight of the Arundel
Kingdom and a follower of there ways. "young mistress, looks
dashing as always i see" he bowed with his left hand balled over
his chest and his right hand behind his back with his palm flat
outward "how are we today?"

As Katrina walked through the halls, her heels clicked softly on
the stone. Seeing her faithful advisor waiting for her she
smiled and shook her head lightly. He was always on step ahead
of her, waiting for her. The faintest of rouge's crept into the
young girls cheeks at her advisor's words. "Cedric! You know
you can call me Katrina, I've told you that before." She sighed
softly and carefully re-positioned the book she was carrying, so
that she could fold her hands delicately in front of herself.
The girl's demeanor in the castle still carried the air of grace
she was expected too, even when her thoughts were elsewhere. "I
am fine today. I sat in as much court as I could take, but I'm
glad to be done for now."

the soft smile gave way to a soft laugh as he stood and looked
at her "my apologies lady katrina...........you have never been
the one for the daily life of a queen.....but yet it will be a
life that you have to have" one who dod not know him would
confuse his smiles for sly and smart. but katrina...one of few
people knows that his smile always means kindness and joy "and
what is it you are reading?" he looked at the book

Katrina gave cedric a small smile as he switched to calling her
by her name. Giving a small nod, she tucked a lock of golden
hair behind her ear. [i]"Whether it be something I look forward
too or not, I shall continue to preform my duties. I intend to
serve my position with as much as I can give. If daily life
requires serving in the court, then I shall serve in the court."
She sighed softly. She knew the ways of her kingdom, but there
was part of her that questioned their ways, their values.
However if she were to rule one day, she would be sure to be as
versed in the daily requirements as possible.
Seeing Cedric's smile, Katrina smiled as well. Despite Cedric
being so strict in the ways of her kingdom, he was one of the
few she knew she could be open with, well about most things.
Upon questioning, she shifted the book softly in her arms. The
cover and binding were unmarked, and there was a black satin
ribbon to serve as a place holder. [color=darkred][i]"This?
It's just a book. I picked it up in the library...... I don't
think anyone else will be looking for it."

an eyebrow "funny.....i have never known you to just.......pick
up a random book" he looked at the book again and back to her
still smiling "so where you off too lady katrina?" he changes
the topic, knowing that no true answer would come from him
prodding about the book

Katrina's shoulders rose softly as his eyebrow quirked upwards.
[i]"It was merely picked up out of curiosity, nothing more
nothing less." The young heiress tried to keep her wanderings
into the darker alcoves of the library less than common
knowledge. The older books, the forgotten books always seemed
to call to her. To her advantage, most of the books from this
section were unmarked. As Cedric changed the topic she gave him
another warm smile. [color=darkred][i]"I believe my lessons are
done for the day, and I do not know if there is a place to train
this evening. I was going to relax for a bit before dinner,
either take in some reading or find a place to relax in the
castle. Maybe take watch of the stars to see if they speak once
they make their appearance in the sky. How about you Cedric?"

Cedric nodded as she spoke "hmmmm i most likely will return to
my studies in a while, seeing as my daily task are done, you are
in no way in trouble or causing trouble.....i too will relax" he
chuckled softly

A slightly dark mischevious smile etched its way onto Katrina's
graceful features. [color=darkred][i]"If you are longing for
some excitement, I could probably see fit to cause a little
trouble."
