       Example reflective statement

       Hi all,
  HTML https://www.dropbox.com/home/Fitch%20Learning%20Documents/DSW%20Toolkits/General%20Reflective%20Statement
An example reflective statement from DSW.
They’ve not told me what grade – but I anticipate a bank of
these would be at distinction grade. Certainly the distinction
awards I have given are of similar standing.
       Feel free to share...!
       What questions do you have?
       Sam

I have been telling the learners to do something very much along
these lines. But have been stressing to include evidence ie.
screenshots of work, emails pasted in. Had been told
previously that this type of general descriptive work not
enough, that the evidence was key. Have shared with them as
comes from assessor, not knowing what to aim for has been a
problem and this is very helpful. But am a little concerned its
       not a consistent message.

       Hi
Thanks for posting this Sam, it's very interesting to see this.
I agree with Nick - I have been telling my learners to embed
evidence within the same document. The reference to the learning
objectives seem very simple here, whereas I've been telling my
learners that they need to explain the link to the learning
objectives and to map this in greater detail. It would be good
to know if this is definitely distinction level as it would be
good to tell them to aim to create something like this as I'm
sure they would be receptive to this. Please can you find out
whether this also had additional evidence (emails, documents
etc) and also witness statements, or whether this stand alone
       document is sufficient.
For the statement "This is one of my 5 Reflective Statements
which make up my Junior Management Consultancy apprenticeship
portfolio." do you know whether they have written a similar
introduction in each of the 5 Reflective Statements or whether
just having it in one Reflective Statement is sufficient and
then introducing the area they want to cover in the other
       statements?
Also I thought they had to introduce which LOs they are covering
in the introduction and then explain it in further detail,
whereas here the LOs are only mentioned once.
Can we send this to the learners, and I don't supppose they have
a few other samples that we can see too (from Finance/Banking),
to give to the learners so we can see a few different styles?
       Regards
       Maria

       Hi Nick, Maria,
The message is still the same. Any evidence needs some
reflective statement to demonstrate why the evidence is meeting
       the objective.
This example reflective statement would of had evidence to
support the reflective statement. The aim of this reflective
statement example is to provide what good could look like. The
"5 reflective statements" bit looks like this has been prepared
in gateway. This will be unknown as they are progressing through
       the programme.
It's a generic document that has no doubt been forwarded to
other providers. Indeed, it would have been good if this example
had been written on their own reflective statement template!
Feel free to share with your learners.
I will continue to get my learners to introduce the LO and link
to the evidence - because that's the way i like it to be done.
Tailor your advice as needs be. There's many ways to meet the
learning objectives that stretch and challenge the learners as
can be seen by the example.
       What questions do you have?
I will ask for more examples.
       Sam

       Hi all,
       Reply from DSW.
I have told them that although little benefit to them it would
be enormously helpful to us and our learners!
As they're not providing other examples, once we have learners
go through EPA we can build a bank of fail, pass and
       distinction.
       What questions do you have?
       Sam
       "Hi Sam,
       Thanks for your email.
That’s the only resource we are able to provide regarding
       reflective statement examples.
We cannot offer multiple reflective statement examples and we
cannot specify it to particular standards or industries, as we
work across so many. It would take so much time, for little
benefit when the one we’ve provided demonstrates what we would
expect to see and gives guidance on referencing.
If you feel you need more guidance, you will have opportunity to
submit a reflective statement as part of the interim reviews.
I have received your email about setting up a pre-gateway
interim review. When we can schedule that in, we’ll look to
answer queries re reflective statements then."

       Hi Sam
Thanks for the update. Some of my learners are the first
apprentices who are scheduled to start gateway in November. In
your correspondence with DSW below they have mentioned a
pre-gateway interim review. Would it be possible for some of my
learners to participate in this as their gateway is approaching
soon and do you have further information on this?
       Many thanks
       Maria

       Hi Maria,
       They sure have.
All that we need to do is arrange with Jake at DSW.
CK is currently the first one to go through the process. We're
hoping that we can get everything needed / a checklist so that
Jake can record the session for all to see.
In the interim, please send a request to a gateway review to me
       via email.
       Sam
