       What is Gateway?

       Hi all,
The gateway period is when you select the evidence to go tho
EPA, it is here that the selected evidence is titled/page
numbered and referenced onto the DSW referencing sheet.
       What questions do you have?

       Hi Sam,
Wanted to share that I've experienced some confusion around the
process that learners will be following for Gateway.
In the DSW toolkit for L4 Investment Operations Specialist the
language is ambiguous and could be seen to imply that Gateway is
the period used for evidence gathering and not for selecting the
best pieces of evidence from e-track to submit in a portfolio to
the EPA. (see page 5 "A portfolio of evidence from real work
completed during the End-point Assessment stage" and also Page 6
'what is sufficient?' -> Over a period of time – i.e. throughout
       the End-point Assessment Period).
This is different to the L6 documentation which states:
"This will be an e-portfolio or other electronic platform. The
Portfolio will initially be reviewed at the gateway by the
apprentice supported by the employer and Training Provider
against the standard. When the employer is satisfied that the
apprentice has met or is clearly on track to meet the pass
criteria for the Standard, the Portfolio will be sent to the
End-Point Assessment Organisation for independent review to
       inform the Panel Interview."
I have a L4 IOS learner who recently completed IOC asking me
about this as when he took IOC the evidence was all compiled
       during Gateway not before.
I explained that the process is as below - we build a portfolio
of evidence together over the 15 months of the programme which
satisfy all KSB's and then select the most impactful (likely
amassed in the last 3 months due to the nature of the programme
and their personal development) to go to the EPA ahead of the
       discussion. His response was;
"A colleague of mine who is one year into the Scholar programme
has recently been through this. So i still believe this is
something that needs to be looked into further."
Could you provide some clarification around this - i.e. are
Gateway processes different for L4 and L6?
       Thanks

       Thanks Mark.
As I understand it, no one in Fitch Learning has been through
gateway / EPA yet. I suspect this may be another apprenticeship
       programme with another provider.
Running this by DSW for completeness. I believe your guidance is
       correct.
       Stay tuned.

       Hi Mark,
As expected our guidance is correct.
No one has gone through gateway yet at Fitch and DSW. This
comment must relate to a different course and provider. This is
the way Fitch and DSW do it.
       DSW;
"The portfolio evidence collection does vary across different
standards, please see the assessment plans on the IFATE website.
Taken from the IFATE assessment plan:
L4 Investment The portfolio contains evidence that is likely to
have been completed towards the end of the apprenticeship and
will illustrate the application of the knowledge, skills and
       behaviours within the Standard synoptically.
L6 Financial Services Professional The on-programme stage will
also require the apprentice to complete a portfolio of evidence
that meets the requirements of the learning outcomes (Appendix
       1) and the apprenticeship standard."
       Helpful?
       Sam
P.S I had to google IFATE. DSW assumed I knew. Below for
completeness. I've asked for the exact link for "appendix 1".
       The website is very big!

Thanks Sam, that's great and I'm relieved to hear that I've been
       giving learners the correct guidance.
For those with L4 IOS learners such as myself the link to the
assessment plan on the IFATE website is here:

Some questions re DSW meeting and what is actually needed around
evidence and approaching Gateway for L7:
       (i) for L6/7 the portfolio of K/S/B is not assessed but rather
considered as a 'bank of evidence used for the EAP meeting
(ii) That it would be sufficient at this level to have ~3-4
write ups that show how the learner applies and covers all the
required KSBs. In fact for them preferable than lots of
       individual pieces to assess.
(iii) As part of this they would expect there to be a few
reflective statements included therein but not one per evidence.
Just wondered if you guys were of a similar understanding or if
i had misunderstood on any of these points - thanks in advance

       Hi Matt,
Did you have a look at the DSW toolkit for each of these points?
Just checking in with DSW in the interim.

       Hi all,
I’ve included the links for you below.
       •
to have been completed towards the end of the apprenticeship and
will illustrate the application of the knowledge, skills and
       behaviours within the
       Standard synoptically.
The assessment plan can be found at:

       •
also require the apprentice to complete a portfolio of evidence
that meets the requirements of the learning outcomes (Appendix
       1) and the
       apprenticeship standard.
The assessment plan can be found at:
  HTML https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/media/1511/st0472_financial_services_professional_l6_ap_for_publication_december_2017.pdf
The appendix 1 refers to the Learning Outcomes of the L6
Standard and can be found in the assessment plan in the above
       link.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
