       1897- 8:30 p.m.  A large barn owned by Agnes Kemp on a farm with
       Jacob Bender the tenant farmer located in Susquehanna Township,
       one mile north of the city limits(Division St) took fire and
       burned to the ground.  Destroyed were seven head of cattle, hay,
       straw and many farm implements.  Loss was estimated at $3,000.
       The district companies responded to Box 123 at Sixth and
       Mahantango(Radnor) Streets and went as far as Division Street
       but not to the fire, as it was determined that it was beyond all
       fire department help.  Then at 10:00 p.m. the Hope Engine No. 2
       was dispatched to the above firegrounds as high winds were
       carrying sparks onto adjacent buildings of the Hamilton Alricks
       estate.  Why an out of district company would respond that far,
       bypassing two other companies is lost to history.
