1907- The weather was clear and very cold with the temperature
near 10 degrees. At 1:49 a.m. a passerby pulled Box 12 located
down in Shipoke at Front and Dock Streets. The fire was located
at the rear of 425 Showers Street in Shipoke. A two-story frame
stable owned and used by First Ward Alderman Dr. John B.
Nicholas was fully involved when the Paxton Engine No. 6 arrived
and got in service with a line of hose from their steamer. Two
carriages and a wagon were quickly removed by the help of
neighbors and firemen but all the hay, feed, harness, and other
horse implements were lost. Fortunately there were no horses in
the building at the time. Origin was never determined. Loss
estimated at $800.
