       WAUSAU FIRE

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Three people escaped from a burning home this afternoon in
Wausau with the help of a passerby.
Firefighters were called just before 2 p.m. to a report of a
house fire at 713 Scott St. Flames were visible on the south
side of the two-story building when firefighters arrived and
smoke could be seen pouring from around the home where the
       siding and roof meet.
Sky-Hunter Bair, 29, of Wausau said he was at the home of a
friend across the alley behind the home when he saw smoke. Bair
said he rushed up a flight of stairs leading to a deck on the
south side of the building. Although there is a door leading
into the home’s second floor, Bair said deck was too hot to
approach the door. Instead, he said he knocked on a window at
the top of the stairs, and saw a woman and her son inside. Bair
said he helped the woman, her son and a second woman out through
       the window.
Firefighters extinguished flames on the exterior of the
building, but smoke still poured from the inside home. Flames
were visible coming through a broken window on the southwest
corner of the home. Firefighters used axes and a chainsaw to cut
into the building in addition to entering through the door.
Wausau Fire Batalion Chief Paul Czarapata said investigators are
still trying to determine how and where the fire started. No one
was injured in the blaze, he said.
